Why push the issue by sending a huge group of people? They say its legal, they prefer concealed but did not say you could not OC, simple as that. I have never had an issue OC there in the multiple times I have gone. Why try there hand at seeing how creative the legal department is. Call it a day and move on. That's just my opinion.

If all the guards are escorting OCer's, who's watching the penguins?! Have they not seen the documentary Madagascar? The penguins are a crafty little tuxedo-wearin' quasi-military troupe.

Because we are a family destination, and many of our guests are uncomfortable seeing someone carry a firearm in close proximity to their families, we may need to supply a security escort if you decide to open carry. The security guard would be on hand to alleviate the concerns of our other guests.

The security escorts should be accompanying the other guests, not the OC'ers. They are the ones who need added security, because they are not providing it for themselves.

Restrictions
For the safety of the animals and fellow zoo visitors, certain items may not be brought onto zoo grounds. We must
ask that balloons, piñatas, balls, frisbees and other flying objects not be part of your event. Clowns, mascots, costumes
and other “circus” type items are also prohibited. Please consult your Sales & Event Specialist before bringing items
and activities into the zoo.
In compliance with quarantine restrictions and park regulations pets, skateboards and firearms are not allowed
at Woodland Park Zoo.

I am not sure if the preemption law applies or not. Just what I found in about 20 seconds on Zoo's website.

I hope the preemption law does apply.

As observed earlier, Woodland Park Zoo is owned by the City of Seattle (see "Woodland Park Zoo Management" paragraph) and is, therefore, probably subject to preemption by RCW 9.41.270. The way I see it, any regulation or attempt by them to prohibit firearms in the zoo is a legal nullity. While they may try to claim that, since the park is managed by the Woodland Park Zoological Society it therefore is subject to regulation per PNSPA v. Sequim, I don't think that dog will hunt.

Greetings,

Thank you for asking for clarification on carrying firearms. Woodland Park Zoo does follow city policies on open and concealed carry. You may carry a permitted, concealed firearm on zoo grounds.

However, for open carry, we do suggest that you leave your firearms at home. Because we are a family destination, and many of our guests are uncomfortable seeing someone carry a firearm in close proximity to their families, we may need to supply a security escort if you decide to open carry. The security guard would be on hand to alleviate the concerns of our other guests. Please contact me with any further questions.

Thanks,
Valerie

Dear Valerie,

If I visit Woodland Park Zoo while open carrying, I will be conducting myself in a constitutionally-protected lawful manner. If you have an "escort" follow me around, I will inform the "escort" that (s)he is stalking me in violation of RCW 9A.46.110 and to please cease doing so. If I have children with me, I am certain that they will be frightened and alarmed by the constant presence of a guard stalking them for no apparent reason.

If the "escort" does not cease stalking us, I will call 9-1-1 and report the crime to the Seattle Police Department. Therefore, I encourage you to not have an "escort" stalk me and my guests and draw unnecessary attention to us while we are conducting ourselves in a lawful manner.

Sincerely yours,
