TOPPENISH — A second victim in a gang-related shooting died early this morning at a hospital, authorities said.

Estevan Silva Jr., 17, was brought to Yakima Valley Memorial Hospital with a gunshot wound to the head sometime after 10 last night, and died about 4:15 this morning, said Yakima County Coroner Maury Rice.

Another victim in the shooting, 20-year-old Israel Diac, was pronounced dead at the scene. He was shot in the side, Rice said.

Monday autopsies are planned for both victims, Rice said.

Shots broke out sometime after 10 last night after a confrontation between people in a dark car and a group of people standing near the railroad tracks at the intersection of Washington Avenue and Buena Way, police said.

Diac and Silva were among a group of people standing near the tracks when the car pulled up. Gang affiliations were announced and a passenger in the vehicle opened fire on the group, striking Diac and Silva, police said.

The driver of the vehicle then fled west on nearby Track Road at a high rate of speed, police said.

Rice said there have been eight homicides in Yakima County this year.

Anyone with information about the shooting is being asked to contact police at 509-865-4355.
