he should have reported it right away, instead of leaving town.
That's probably why they had a trial.
I do agree however with him wanting to speak to a lawyer first, its worth keeping your mouth shut other then saying " I was in fear of my life, I want a lawyer"
even if it means a few days in jail. oh... no talking to the inmates there about your case either.
