I was walking into Home Depot in Alamogordo this morning and there was this sign in bold letters...plastered to the front entrance door sliding window, "No FIREARMS ALLOWED on Home Depot Property" I think I'm leaving out a few fine print words, but the message was clear.
FYI: Due to my line of work (outside sales) I don't typically open carry, am waiting on my concealed carry permit to arrive in the mail. My weapon stays in my vehicle at the current time, unless I'm making a bank run, and then it is openly carried.
Anyway, I asked an employee who looked in charge if the posted policy for firearms was a store policy or a corporate policy. Both employees assured me it was corporate. So I politely asked to speak with the store manager, if he/she was in. It turns out he was, but I got tired of waiting (work to do).
When I got home, I found two other incidents on older posts to Open Carry showing incidents of two gentlemen being escorted out of Home Depot for the same reason (open carrying). Both gentlemen were notified by corporate that this was not corporate policy and that corporate policy is for patrons to obey local state laws concerning firearms, and they accept that.
Has this policy changed? I searched Home Depot's site with no results. I searched the web with no results showing otherwise.
Any one willing to go with me Friday, March 13th around lunch time or later in the afternoon to talk with the Manager. I'm only in town for Friday. I'll call Home Depot corporate in the am to confirm the lack of change in policy.
