Even the de-militarized ones like you have (no bayo lug, no muzzle threads, etc) are going for over $500.

Also, that "catching" you are experiencing is the bolt hanging up on the hammer, which is not a problem. Actually, I find it rather helpful on my AES-10a (a WASR-10 with long barrel, G2 trigger, RPK stock, and muzzle threading) since it allows me to let the bolt down slowly and it holds it open for me while I work on it. It takes a good shove to pop it forwards; almost like a bolt-hold-open, but less reliable and non-functional for the last round. Hehe.

Any 922 compliance issues? Can I change the stock without violating federal law?

I wanted to go with collapsible stock (Or possibly draganov style thumbhole), retractable bipod, and a red dot sight.

I highly recommend going to the main AK forum on G&G: http://www.gunandgame.com/forums/ak47/ and reading the legalities sticky. There's also the AK-files forum's version: http://www.akfiles.com/forums/showthread.php?t=41841 but I don't think it's nearly as good.

Mainly, there's 16 parts on a normal AK that are on "the list" in regards to 922(r) and you can only have 10 foreign-made parts on the firearm. So, there are 6 parts on there now that are US-made (or less, depending on the configuration of the weapon). As long as you don't add foreign parts or take off US-parts and replace them with foreign, you're fine.

As for collapsible stocks go, there's a bunch out there and most are of the T-6 AR-15 type with some variation on the same. You can get replica dragunov-style stocks that fit AK's for rather cheap right now.

As for red dot and bipod, I'm guessing you're wanting a quad-rail forearm... I've heard a LOT of good things about UltimAK's quad-rail, due to the upper rail being solidly held to the barrel instead of to the lower forearm, thus holding your zero. Also, they're a NW company, originating out of Idaho.

Edit: okay, so it's not a quad-rail, but they do have an upper rail and a separate lower tri-rail. If I remember correctly, their upper gas-tube rail is situated such that a red-dot can be used in-line with the iron sights (tré cool!): http://www.ultimak.com/M1-b.htm

I agree, you did well. It's not a complete steal, but it's a good price in today's environment.

I also agree that the bolt-riding-hammer is a non-issue, and not to be worried about at all. My WASR also does it.

One mags spring is completely toast, the other mags spring is on its way out.

Well, I can put ~5 rds in and it'll fire great, any more than that and the base plate just sticks in place, turning it upside down moves it, like the spring isnt even pushing it.
