Late yesterday, in a move that surprises many of us, Governor Huntsman signed HB357S01 and SB78S02. These two bills are long needed changes to Utah's firearms law.

HB357S01 clarifies the law on carrying a loaded firearm on your property and extends that to your car. When this bill takes effect, you will be able to carry a loaded firearm in your vehicle concealed or openly with out a concealed firearms permit.

HB78S02 prohibits employers or public parking lots from prohibiting keeping firearms or religious items in your locked vehicle in the parking lot. There are certain exceptions, but they are limited. One notable exception is that this does not apply to religious institutions, even when acting as an employer.

IANAL, so be sure to read the and understand the law for yourself.
