I have a feeling this was a much bigger p**sing contest than they're letting on, but interesting that FEMA backed off.

Well I'm glad the locals stood their ground,and put the fed's back in their place. Katrina victims were either disinterested or unprepared to deal with that flooding issue. The folks in Fargo seemed ready to fight as soon as the danger was on the horizon.

Way to go Fargo!! Those folks know how to survive, and Didn't need the FEMA footprint in their town..

People from the midwest US know how to take care of themselves. I fully expect the people from N & S Dakotas to be able to handle pretty much anything Nature throws at them. They live in some beautiful but at times, inhospitable climates... It's not something your average lifelong city-dweller can easily handle.

Kudos to them. Glad to know they were able to make do and come out on top.

"Fargo to FEMA: F*** off!"



The only thing better would be if they'd actually kicked FEMA out of the county, with a standing order to arrest or shoot on sight if they returned.

FEMA was only worried about their ongoing Katrina-esque PR problem if the levees broke and people died. They didn't care one bit about the homes and businesses that would be destroyed if the people of Fargo didn't stay there to sandbag and fight back. If they'd evacuated the town and everything had been destroyed, well, hey!, that's just a lot more business for FEMA: more grants, funds, and programs to manage. More equipment to give to the best beggers. More uninhabitable trailers to distribute. Thousands of man-hours spent creating new contingency plans where the local government agrees to a larger role for FEMA in any future crises.

Feed 'em fish heads.
