Last week National Democratic Party Chairman and part-time Virginia Governor Tim Kaine was labeled by the Washington Times as "out of touch" for vetoing almost every pro-gun bill this year for "mindless" reasons. But Kaine's veto of one gun bill takes the cake by insulting American military personnel with a clearly erroneous veto message. . . .

From the Washington Times link in the article:

Take Mr. Kaine's veto of the bill that would let retired law enforcement officers carry their guns in restaurants that serve alcohol. These are retired officers who have served in law enforcement for at least 10 years. They already have been qualified under federal law to carry a concealed firearm, and they would not be allowed to drink alcohol when they are armed. The Democrat-controlled Senate passed the bill unanimously and 85 percent of the Republican-controlled House voted for it.

Yet Mr. Kaine keeps repeating the mindless, inapplicable slogan "Guns and alcohol don't mix."

Perhaps Gov. Kaine has been too busy working on the other side of the river to notice, but it's already legal --in Virginia and every other state, commonwealth, territory, and possession of the United States-- for a retired LEO to carry concealed in a place where alcohol is served. (Provided they have qualified in the last 12 months to the statewide standard for active duty LEOs in their state of residence.)

It's called LEOSA, and it's been the law for almost 5 years now. There's not a damn thing Kaine or any other governor can do about it.
