"Defense Welfare"

Mark Steyn is filling in for Rush Limbaugh today. Just a bit ago, he was discussing the fact that most European nations are unable to muster any significant self defense effort, and as a consequence are not really a sovereign nation. Instead they are "defense welfare" states, depending on other countries (yes, that would be the United States) to defend them in case of an attack.

It struck me that this analogy also applies to the anti-gun "citizens" as well. They are clearly unable to muster any significant self-defense, and must rely on a hope and a prayer (or call to 911, etc.) for their own self-defense.

Defense Welfare: the next logical step to a total socialist welfare state.

I have read some articles about this very thing. From people who chose not to own or carry firearms to outright anti-gun/ban-them-all people, they are, whether they realize it or not, recipients of our efforts to carry defensive firearms. One could call them "collateral recipients" or benefiting parasites". Our carrying a firearm benefits them. And the really weird thing is they don't like or don't want this "benefit".. until some maggot sticks a gun to their head and says, "Your keys and your wallet/purse MF". Then they'd be begging one of us to shoot.

And that's why we're the "Sheepdogs and they're the " sheep-le". I often wonder If/when the SHTF and *they* start rounding folks up, course I have these wierd dreams, *it's the voices, I swear, it's the voices*, if we stand and fight, will the sheeple even KNOW just what it is we're fighting for? I went to great lengths to assure my immediate family is equipped to survive, and should the need arise, mobilize. I often wonder, am I alone in these efforts? Or are there more folks that see an imminent collapse? Am i just being paranoid?

I don't believe the sheep-le will know or care. You are talking about people who don't care about anything other then being politically correct. you are not alone and you are not paranoid. look at the great depression we have been on the verge of if not in one for many years now but the only reason people aren't freaking out is because we have a smiley face that tells us through a picture frame thats plugged in to the wall that everything is okey dokey!!!!WELL EVERYTHING IS NOT OKEY DOKEY!!!!! some of use have troubles paying our BILLS or affording GAS!!! when will they stop LIEING and tell us the TRUTH!!!!!

I'm with you !!!! I too have gone to great lengths (the bottom of my wallet, my mind, and the internet) to ensure survivle. My plan includes a meeting place, a more permanent location to liveourlife, arms to hunt and defend (still need a few more things like ammo and arrows maybe a shootie)

I keep all my gearis packed and ready so that at a drop of a mag I can grab gear open safe and grab weapons. we also keep money in the bank so that gas for the trip is not a huge problem.

I have showed my wife how to use weapons as well as basic survival skills. while the meeting place is in the opposite direction of the final place the meeting place is for my whole family including a few friends. all of the places are remote and isolated from people. I do still need more gear for my wife as she does not have a pack or extreme cold weather sleeping bag.

My Dad always taught me "Prepare for the worst (you'll always be prepared) and you'll never be let down!! you will be ready for anything life throws at you and you will be a strong rock that endures many hardships due to your level of readiness.

I was taught to...

Prepare for the worst. Everything else will be a pleasant surprise.

We're not as ready as you are to pull up and leave but we can be so readyin under a day (with the level of supplies we have on-hand). Given that we've done SCA style camping, we are well experienced in rough camping conditions. It would take some getting used to for the kids as a permanent lifestyle but my wife & I could make it right off.
