KOVA 4:

"Pima County Sheriff Clarence Dupnik has accepted the resignation of an officer who was shot in the leg outside of the minimum security jail where he worked. According to Sheriff's officials, the officertold a variety of conflicting stories as to how he was shot.

Last Tuesday around 4:00am, Sgt. Abbott, a former corrections officer at the minimum security jail on Mission road, was shot in the leg while in the parking of the jail where he worked. According toPCSO, the officer was making hisrounds outside the facility, when he dropped to the ground with a gun-shot wound to his leg.

When Abbott was shot canine units,SWAT snipers andthe SWAThelicopterwere allused to search the scene for the possible shooter.

The resignation of the 23-year veteran is immediate."

Resigned? I think they let him resign instead of being fired. After some thought... I think this guy shot himself in the leg. They carry Glocks... easy enough to do. He wouldn't be the first. However... if he had an NG... he should'a said so. Rumor mill has it that he was carryin' on with some female prisoner on work release at the time... That could complicate the tale.

Ya, I cannot see how an accidental discharge would require a 23 year veteran to immediately resign. Definitely some untold details of interest there.

The article says he told conflicting stories. That's why he had to immediately resign.

What is likely is he ND'ed, then made up a fairy tale about a shooter, thus wasting law enforcement manpower and taxpayer dollars on a wild-goose chase. Looks like it's the "victim" who's leaving out the details, not the Sheriff.
