So my daughter turned five. She's been asking to have her ears pierced. Where I live the options are Wal-mart or the mall. So I decided on the mall for a larger selection of earrings. My boyfriend (who also OC) and I take her to Claire's at the Valdosta mall. My daughter decides to use the restroom which is located diretly in front of the mall office. The secretary behind the desk, behind glass walls that are electronically locked actually got up from her desk with a worried look and retreated:D. We actually made it all the way to Claire's and had my daughter in the chair. The employees didn't seem to mind. Then suddenly we arepounced by a greying fat mall cop anda short and too pudgy woman. They ask us first if we are law enforcement. After answering no, they tell us to leave. Then proceed to escort us out. That will be the last timemy boyfriend or Ishop at the Valdosta mall.

However, being as I am a woman, and hell hath no fury like a scorned woman, I have decided to take it a step further. I make a healthy living and spend a good bit of money. I also have time on my hands. So I have decided that every time I am out shopping or need something that I would have gotten from the mall I am going to send a letter. Will simply say "Today I would have spent 'x' amount of dollars with your company; I did not because your mall does not allow me to carry firearms to protect myself and those with me, and the 'security' you provide are barely equipped to break up a fight between two 15 year olds. When your company changes their policy, I will begin spending again. Total amount not spent with your company since April 1, 2008: ___x__". Petty? Perhaps. Fun? Absolutely!!1:celebrate

Good grief, that is pretty stupid. I'll remember never to visit Valdosta malls.
What is even more amusing is that the security folks got in a panic for not just cause.

Petty? No, way! That is exactly what you should do! :D Let them know that there decision costs them money. Better yet, let them know how much!

I think what you are doing is great.

That goes for any chain stores. If for example someone has issues with 'Target', then we can all write to the manage of our local stores and say that we no longer will frequent the chain. So it'll not be a removal of one person, but a few hundred thousand lawful firearms licensed individuals.

Great idea! I would also suggest sending a copy of each letter to the manager of whichever store(s) in the mall sells merchandise similar to what you just purchased elsewhere. This is important, because it is the store(s) that are actually losing business because of the mall's policy and they can put pressure on the mall management to change their policy.

That is an absolutely brilliant idea!! I hope you don't mind if I steal that idea and use it myself, if this circumstance ever arises. So far I have been lucky enough that no one (store) has asked me to leave anywhere, except my bank, and right now I need them so I have decided to capitulate for now. But I live in Idaho and I think people are more used to the idea of OC'ing here. When I no longer need this particular bank and decide to find a new one, I fully intend to send them a letter letting them know that the reason I am changing banks is because of their policy.

I also agree with the person who said send those letters to the stores themselves, they are the ones losing money. They still have to pay the same rent for their space regardless of whether they have a lot of customers or only a few, so when they lose business it hurts THEIR bottom line, not the mall's.

I do! Several of our Tucson Malls are owned by GGP of Chicago. Therefore mall entrances are posted "No Weapons".

So I don't shop at those malls.

Adjoining Sears, Macy's, Dillards, Borders establishments are not posted and I've OC in those places numerous times without incident.

You could even send in a copy of your receipt from the other store, blanking out the name of the item you bought if it's a privacy matter. That way there is more authenticity to your claim. Save up a bunch of them and send in a big pile of receipts.

What reason did the mall security people give you for having to leave? They obviously don't know the law. But then, who would expect a mall security guard to know much of anything at all about GA gun laws. I would have raised a fuss. Malls are not off limits for oc'ing? They are privately owned buildings not public? If there were no signs posted at the entry, they have no cause boot you out.

well they dont have to post signs just ask you to leave for any reason and if you refuse you can be charged with criminal trespass....

Yes, I understand that point. By raising a fuss I simply meant, I would do the same things she's considering. Not patronizing those retailers. I would also contact the main office to give them my 2 cents worth. At least try to make the point about OC'ing being legal in our state. It's a start? We have to keep the issue in "their" faces and make our voices heard..

Every Mall I have ever been to is just like Valdosta Mall.

The same old 'No Guns' addage is getting very old, and is probably going to get someone else hurt.
