I know the moderators have a thread for video links in the hot topics section, but it doesn't move up the page when there is a newpost, so I thought I'd start one that we can keep at the top of our page:

The bicyclist case was actually a poster-boy situation for what gun-rights advocates have been saying for years — that firearms can and should be used for self-defense. This was a case with a good outcome: no one was shot, and an honest citizen protected himself from being robbed.

Great article regarding the open carry picnic in greenfield juxtaposed against the Dan Jansen Festival.

Thanks Hugh for this collection of links. We can only hope that the news media covers this further so we can add more links to this page. But it's up to us to start carrying!

Here's an editorial that ran in the paper a little while ago....I thought newspapers had fact checkers...apperently not. He has soooo many things wrong here I have no idea where to begin. I started with a reply to his e-mail address (found at the end of this post) trying to clear up some of his errors. I highly doubt he will print a "correction" in the paper to rectify them.

http://www.fdlreporter.com/article/20090426/FON06/904260615

Snipit....

......It's interesting what trips the trigger of people in the Fond du Lac area.

It says a lot about them, I think.

It's come up before, and it's been kicked around by people on both sides of the handgun aisle. I simply can't get my mind around why some people think it's necessary to carry a handgun in plain view of everyone they meet.

"Hi, nice to meet ya. Wanna see my six shooter?

I'd be saying, "See ya," and be heading in the opposite direction.

I totally understand why people — I'm not referring to law enforcement personnel — carry concealed firearms. Those are the people who probably plan to wreak their own personal havoc on someone else. In many cases, they're crooks and other ill-assorted "bad guys."

Maybe I watched too many Westerns as a kid, but I think there were some important lessons to be learned in those American "morality plays."

It took a while, but the Wild West wised up and came to the conclusion that a bunch of gunslingers on Main Street just might be bad for business, not to mention breathing.

Countless times, in the shows I watched on our old Philco, the wily sheriff welcomed the rowdy cowhands to town, invited them to turn over their six-shooters for the duration of their visit and pointed them to the nearest saloon. A bit of safety and a lot of bar business.

So unnecessary
Carrying a handgun in the streets of Fond du Lac, Oakfield, Eden, Marblehead, Waupun or wherever just seems so unnecessary.

Well, I take that back. A pistol would be made to order if a crazed raccoon leaped out of the brush to terrorize a lone hiker along one of the county's popular hiking trails.

A person I talk with regularly contends that there is a major flaw in my argument about guns. He points out that the Nazis methodically seized the citizenry's firearms before taking control of Germany and plunging the world into war.

I'm not in favor of the government or any other authority taking control of citizens' guns. People have every right to have firearms. The Second Amendment to the U.S. Constitution makes that perfectly clear.

I just don't think it makes much sense for people to walk the city or village streets of the Fond du Lac area with their pistols hanging out there. I can think of a number of bad things that could happen. I'm hard pressed to think of any good things. The scary raccoon … maybe.......

<sarcasm> but you forget.. that never happens.. the only thing you EVER have to worry about is raccoons. </sarcasm>

sheesh.. if raccoons were the only thing i had to worry about then i would just carry a stick (until that is against the law). i think a few of these anti's need to step out from under the rock they are living under and take a look at reality.

if they want me to walk around with a sign that says "I AM ARMED" just so they can walk the other way.. go for it.. the criminals will only mess with the people without the sign..

I sent an email to Ted Perry, asking him to post his Ted's Take on the fox6now.com site. His response was, "I hadn't thought it was all that great but I'm glad to hear someone liked it. My point was that people might be shocked to see people carrying guns..and they may mock those who do but that it takes a certain amount of guts to stand up for your rights knowing that some will ridicule you for it."

It is now posted on the fox6now.com site.

So is the video on the irresponsible shooting by the Milwaukee PD. All because they received a man with a gun call. Seems to me the police provoked the incident.
