See http://www.handgunlaw.us/states/virginia.pdfI can't find the info on the VSP site but I know its there somewhere.

If going from VA through WVA to Ohio he's good. Stay away from Maryland.

I think what ProShooter was saying by typing weapon in italics is that Virginia Issues a CHP a Concealed Handgun Permit not a Concealed Weapon Permit.

Right from the state police's website:

    http://www.vsp.state.va.us/Firearms_Reciprocity.shtm

What exactly did you search fire-man? A Google search of "Virginia firearm reciprocity" resulted in the first two hits taking you directly to the same link I gave.

Hello, I'm curious about this issue as I'm a Class A truck driver.
Under the Federal Motor Carrier Safety Regulations there is no stated federal law prohibiting him from having his firearm with him. As long as he is following the section I copied below and is in compliance with the states & local communities that he will be driving in he should be legal to transport his firearm accross state lines.
If he has a CCW permit and it is accepted in the states he drives he should be ok, if they do not accept his permit he needs to follow the law of the state and the peacable jouney laws.
Of course his company may not allow firearms on the truck as a policy matter not a law. I'm pretty sure the VA CDL handbook says firearms and alcohol are strickly forbidden in a classs a/b vehicle period, so he should look that up. That would be a state law or policy that he needs to adhere to.

Tell him good luck and careful driving.
Title 18 Setcion 926(a). The peacable journey law.
    TITLE 18–CRIMES AND CRIMINAL PROCEDURE
    PART I–CRIMES
    CHAPTER 44–FIREARMS
Sec. 926A. Interstate transportation of firearms
Notwithstanding any other provision of any law or any rule or
regulation of a State or any political subdivision thereof, any person
who is not otherwise prohibited by this chapter from transporting,
shipping, or receiving a firearm shall be entitled to transport a
firearm for any lawful purpose from any place where he may lawfully
possess and carry such firearm to any other place where he may lawfully
possess and carry such firearm if, during such transportation the
firearm is unloaded, and neither the firearm nor any ammunition being
transported is readily accessible or is directly accessible from the
passenger compartment of such transporting vehicle: Provided, That in
the case of a vehicle without a compartment separate from the driver’s
compartment the firearm or ammunition shall be contained in a locked
container other than the glove compartment or console.

Folks, if you plan to travel state-to-state, bookmark this link to PackNGo - a trip planner.

I don't have a whole lot of praise for USCCA, but this tool is wonderful. You input the state(s) you have permit(s) from, and the states you'll be traveling through, and it spits out a list of which honor which permits.

I think the spelling/grammar issues may inhibit any possibilities of a successful search in this case, Ed.....

As others have said, Handgunlaw.us has info on CCW throughout the US. They also have a 'create CCW map' option (on the left side of the home page) where you can select which State(s) you have paperwork from and it will show you where that permit is honored.

The above two sources above contradict each other. Look atSouth Carolina just as an example. VCDL says South Carolinadoesn't recognize a Virginia permit. The Virginia State Police say they do. So who's right?
That first link is way out of date. Try this one.

When in doubt, check with the destination state. South Carolina says yes.
