I read this thread on the GlockTalk forum:

"PLEASE READ COMPLETELY:
We regret to inform you that the 'Firearms' category and subcategories have been removed from the Local Sales Network.

Google notified us on April 28th that weapon-related content is in violation of their policies. They gave us 72 hours to remove the content if LSN is to continue earning income through Google's advertising campaigns."

More info here:

My response?

NP. Just clicked on the "Yahoo" seach engine as my new choice for my web searches at the top of my FireFox browser window.

IMO - if Google wants to act like that- then every single gun-owner in the country should immediately switch to a different Search engine.

It's called "measured response". Pete

So, some limp-wristed company from California is anti-gun?

This is NOT NEWS.

Of course, given Google's claws in the web, you're still getting them money just about everywhere you go.

That's why I run with Adblock Plus turned on.

Except here, of course. :D

Well, I DID block that stupid Crossbreed Holsters ad. It was just too annoying.

Ubuntu GNU/Linux + AppArmor + Firefox + NoScript = the safest possible browsing experience.

AppArmor protects against known and unknown privilege escalation attempts, if properly utilized. Any 0-day attack is contained within the application itself, and the parts of the system it needs to access, and the rest of the system is protected. It even locks down the root user. AppArmor rocks!!!

If you're running a browser as root, you've got bigger problems than AppArmor can address.
unfortunately, a large portion of the internet is Google owned, or operated, or benefits Google through partnerships.

Google is an owner, directly or indirectly, in:
Gmail, Google Search engine, Picasa, Jotspot ( which was a collaborator in the development of "wiki" software, Adscape Media, which is an in-game advertiser, Youtube, Zimbra etc.
more complete list: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_Google_acquisitions

googles partnerships include:

AOL/time Warner, Yahoo, MySpace, Sun microsystems, NASA, American Idol, the Vatican, Microsoft, Nokia, Samsung, Ericsson, Fox, and others.

I'm starting to believe that Google is the Antichrist...:(

Thanks for this post!

I knew about other boards and lists being anti gun but I did not know this about Google.

I signed the petition.

I'm wondering (pure speculation) whether their policy is based on California law? Craigslist, also a CA company, does not permit firearms or ammo to be sold on their site. The top of their "prohibited items" page cites California law governs some of those restrictions. See http://www.craigslist.org/about/prohibited.items

Wonder if Google is subject to the same limitations? I imagine they probably are. Now the only question is what CA law restricts this activity, if one does in fact exist?

Darn, too bad. I use Google for lots of things and don't plan on quitting. Hey, if I was a really serious boycotter...I'd be Gilligan.

Don't be fooled and think this is just a marketplace issues where you can "vote with your dollars" (or in this case, mouse clicks!)

Google = CIA (Do your homework.)

This is another covert attack by the globalized Federal Government against law-abiding gun owners and the Second Amendment. That's why more than half a dozen state legislatures are introducing "Firearms Freedom Acts" (see elsewhere on this forum) and more than thirty have introduced various sovereignty resolutions.

A civil war is brewing. Last year, Russian intelligence analyst Igor Panarin predicted that the USA will break up in 2010. Judging by current events, it looks like we are well along the road to seeing that happen.
