Wondering if anyone plans on attending the Ann Arbor ArtFair(s). Any stories of OC at the ArtFair?

The other question is - Will MOC be placing an information booth at the ArtFair? Usually, the political information and social cause booths have their own area of the ArtFair, and I''ve gotta say, it's a primo site, lots of foot traffic (on Liberty, between Division and Thompson, I think). These booths are staffed by at least two members of the group represented. Could be really great exposure and almost guaranteed media coverage.

If not, why not? Has this been investigated? I would be interested in hearing more.

Great Idea and thank you for volunteering to spearheading this effort.

Please let us know the what's and when's and also the particulars about time's and what is needed to be brought for the table.

Look, Doug, I am a very new member and don't feel that I should be the one deciding out of the blue that I am an official representative of MOC, prepared to "spearhead" a major public relations campaign.

Clearly, my post asked if this has been considered, and what the outcome was. I have been here for just one week and would have no knowledge of MOC's position regarding this event. I am asking for information only at this point. My future involvement will be decided then, in the future.

I encourage anyone, regardless of how new they are, to arrange events. Time logged in on this site, and time spent OCing, grants you no extra merit as an OCer. Everyone here who is competent with the laws and knows how to handle rare and unlikely police stops is equal.

But that said, if you don't feel comfortable setting it up, you shouldn't. There is never any obligation to participate in anything you aren't comfortable doing. And I believe you are right, that an Ann Arbor event for publicity carries a lot of responsibility.

The open carry movement is grass roots. You don't need to be a member of anything or make a huge effort to find some info out and informally coordinate a get together. Doesn't matter if it's a picnic, a litter pick-up, handing out brochures at a public event (until you get asked to leave, if that happens), looking into getting a table at an event, whatever.

It is understood you are asking if anyone is looking into something about this. While the crickets chirp with that, all Doug is prompting you to do is get a little involved. Feel free to decline at this time, due to your comfort level or lack of time or whatever, but please don't feel you have to be a member of something or have to make it a public relations campaign. Things are much simpler than thatwith most of our activities.

I'm not a member of anything and I'm not into big campaigns, but I'm coordinating the River Woods park get-together including having gone to the Parks and Rec department to get info and sign for the shelter reservation. I'll also be making a couple of calls or emails to local media. No sweat, no big deal.

Hope you get involved to whatever degree you like! :)

As others have said, I'm just a young punk, but I've either hosted or participated in leading two events so far (since I joined 5 months ago).

It just takes a little bit of gonads, some time, a smile, and a few bucks out of pocket (sometimes it's free!), and you've got yourself an event.

The Ann Arbor picnic was pretty straightforward, but this seems to be a step above. The police know everything that they need to, so that's taken care of, but getting a booth is something else. You'll probably need approval, and this isn't exactly art related. Plus, they're expensive. It might be better to just have fliers, shirts, and do a walk around.

I can help out some if need be, but I'll probably be working at the Pizza Pino booth at the western end of Liberty.

The particular section which we'd be involved in is not art related at all. They have everyone from Jew-haters to Orthodox Catholics to the Socialist Party present, with tables.

The problem, I believe, is that they've already closed table reservations for the year, but I'm not certain on that point.

Easy there... All politics aside, In my opinion, Ann Arbor is about the nicest city to live in all of Michigan.

I wouldn't go quite THAT far ziggy, but it is a nice city once you learn the roads. Especially if you don't mind the parking tickets and weed smoking. Ann Arbor has been good to me economically, and aside from being pushy as hell about parking tickets, the police seem nice too.

Many/most of the people are rude! I say "hello" and usually get blank stares like I am beneath these people. I'll hold doors open for people and won't hear "thank you", or people won't hold doors open for me. People are always in the way whether it be on the road, on the sidewalk, or in the aisle of a store. They see you coming and just stnd there right in the middle.

I moved to Jackson 2 years ago, and most of the people out there are MUCH friendlier. Maybe it's because I grew up in a small town, IDK.

Not to mention, Ann Arbor really doesn't have anything that great to offer.
