VICTORVILLE, Calif. -- Federal agents have raided a Victorville gun shop, seizing 196 firearms and business records.

Mike Hoffman, spokesman for the Department of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives, says agents conducted the raid Friday at the Lock Stock & Barrel store and also searched the Apple Valley home of the owner, Steven Mitchell.

A dozen more firearms and ammunition were taken from the home.

Mitchell could not be reached for comment.

Hoffman says he could not elaborate on the reasons for the raids because the search warrants were sealed.

A search warrant is typically sealed when the investigation is not yet complete. Releasing the details of what was taken can inform others that may be involved in what the ATF is after.

The media will often request copies of search warrants daily and print them in the news papers. This enables bad guys to read up and what the ATF is after.
