Went back to where my 7-car traffic stop took place. Needed some touch-up paint, so I went to look at Walmart's (not so) amazing selection of automotive paint. I had a close match picked out when the (nervous) asst manager approached me and told me that I had to leave the store, firearms aren't allowed.
He said "It's third shift in a retail store, you can't carry a gun in here." Hmm, probably when it's needed the most IMO.
I asked him if it was WalMart's official policy and he told me yes. I asked if it was OK if I took my selection to the front while I was on my way out. He said sure. About halfway to the front of the store, I stopped, turned around, and handed him the bottle of touch-up. I told him that I would just pick it up somewhere else, and continued walking toward the door. He told me that I was welcome to come back in the store and continue shopping unarmed. Won't happen. He made vauge references to some other incident where threats were made, and some else who may/may not have been armed having the police called on them.
I asked him to post if that was their official policy, so that responsible gun owners would know to take their money elsewhere. (Note: I'm not trying to create CPZ's, just make them easier to identify. We should know up front, not be escorted out like a busted shoplifter.)
They can keep their paint, it took me 2 tries (and some mixing) to come up with the right color at Meijer, but I was able to do so without being escorted out. I'd rather give my money to the store that respects my rights (so far).
Adding this WalMart to my "no shop" list for now, I might try back in a few months and see what happens. I am not banned from the store as far as I can tell, no one has told me that I am. Would I be tresspassing if I OC'd there again, assuming they're still not posted? There are plenty of other stores to shop at, I don't mind writing that one off completely if need be. Maybe OC during first or second shift since it's not allowed during third?
