granted the way its spun in the story sucks.. but the idea that she had is great!
why WOULDN'T you want to teach kids about guns.. could probably prevent alot of "accidental" shootings if kids know how it all works.

for those that think we need mandatory training to be able to carry..

here it is!

the rest of us would have to be grandfathered in of course.. we cant all go back to highschool. :p

my favorite part is when she says what we are doing now is not helping the problem at all, we need to think of other ways to curb gun violence and background checks are not the answer.

we need more people that think logically like that.

the definition of insanity is doing the same thing over and over and expecting a different result.

I absolutely agree with you. Teaching kids about guns and letting shoot one would DEFINITELY de-mystify kids about guns and definitely prevent accidental shootings.

One thing to keep in mind though. The VAST majority of gun deaths (in chicago and everywhere else) does not happen because of poor training, lack of understanding, or mystery about guns.

The gun crime that ALL those people on that news story talking about (who are against gun training) is inner city drug/crime related intentional shootings.

I wager 99% of the gun killings in chicago occured from people who knew how to handle and operate their gun VERY well. Who knew exactly what they wanted to do, and how to do it, and were not 'mystified' about guns at all. And they are obviously even relatively good shots as the death speaks for itself.

We don't have a gun violence problem in america. We have a gun violence problem in the inner cities of america.

Everyone of those politicians in chicago (and man-on-the-street-interview folks) need to have the common sense to realize that the "killing" on the streets is NOT a gun problem, its a crime problem. The gun is just a tool. If there was NO guns on the streets of chicago do you think there would be no murders? Please. If you could magically take away every gun,Chicago would be the world capital of knife murders. If you could magically take away every knife, it would be a baseball bat as the weapon of choice, and there would be more"beatings to death" in chicago than anywhere else.

And thus we see the power of human emotion in its ability to trump common sense. We can put a man on the moon. We can make a micro-processor that can perform millions of computations per second on a device the size of a pencil eraser. But idiots in politics and society can't realize such a simple and basic conceptthat this isn't a gun problem its a crime/criminal problem.

exactly!
even in the article they mention that the guns used in crimes aren't legally owned firearms.

and of course one way to limit innocent deaths... arm them!
