Just thought you guys would like to see this as it was not in the paper. More to come later.

I hope this don't hurt the ones of us that carry either open or concealed as we already have enough opposition as it is.

look out chiefjason LOL this is your place of OC.

HICKORY, N.C. -- One person is recovering after being shot at a Walmart in Hickory.
Police say someone opened fire in the parking lot of the Walmart on Highway 70 this morning.
An innocent bystander was shot in the leg. She's expected to be ok. Police arrested the suspect.

Yeah, my wife just told me. Seems the shooting took place around 2:30 am. Should make the next outing more interesting. Seeing as I usually go in around midnight after work. :banghead: I really don't go too often though. And I have spoken to the security guard before, so maybe it won't be so bad. On the other hand, I think I now have a very good reason to carry there. I know some folks at Hickory PD. I'll see if I can find anything out about it.

There have been lots of robberies and assaults there at night before. It was probably a matter of time till a shooting happened. Hickory PD keeps a tight lid on these things. I tend to hear WAY more than what is let on about these things.

Going for my CCP class Sat, so I'll soon have more options as well. I'll probably be CC'ing 100% around the wife and kids. I don't want the gov interfering with my right to bear arms, but the wife, that's another story. Marital stability comes first. :D

I see it as more than enough justification to carry, be it open or concealed. I hate to read about people being injured or killed due criminal activity involving firearms, but when I do, it just solidifies my resolve to carry.

But my question is this. Have we become so conditioned by society that we cringe about future threats to 2nd amendment rights when we hear of something like this? This infuriates me even more than threats to the 2nd amendment. Thinking like this is paramount to giving up. I would hope to see everyone's resolve to carry growing stronger.

So was the woman an "innocent bystander" or one of those involved in the argument? At first it made it sound like it was Wal-Mart related but later it appears that it could have been any parking lot and just happened to be Wal-Mart.

As I say nothing good ever happens after 1am.

Here's the info I have.

Victim who was shot was not involoved, ie inocent bystander.

The altercation began in a bar/poolhall in downtown Hickory. Seems the one party to the altercation followed the other party to wal mart. The barwas not near walmart, unless my source is off. I know WHKY, they are probably wrong, since there is no bar next to walmart. Maybe I can get that cleared up.

The shooting was in the parking lot.

Mungo, I see your point. To me I see this as possible ammunition against gun rights. But I have no intention to stop carrying myself.

Vicitm was innocent bystander, not innocent as she should have been home taking care of her younguns at that time of night.

If they had been allowed to carry their guns in the bar/pool hall then they wouldn't have had to go down to thw Wal-Mart to have th shoot out.

Send the media a map of Hickory so they know what they are talking about.

Always carry in Wal-Mart parking lots no matter what time of the day. If Wal-Mart wants to ban guns inside them have lockers for them or provide armed security escorts to cars in the parking lot. :celebrate

what point are you trying to make here? Nothing in this situation even remotely implied that there were any firearms IN the drinking establishment. They LEFT and went to Wal-Mart. They probably drove, so the gun could have very easily been in the car.

The ONLY lesson we can take from this is that there are stupid people EVERYWHERE, and some of these stupid people have guns, even when they're not supposed to. So be smart, and be armed.

Are you serious?

How do you know she had "younguns" at home?

How do you know that she did not have some sensible reason for being out at that time?

Didn't I say that if they had been allowed to have the guns in the bar? Doesn't that imply that guns were not in the bar? If they had the shootout in the bar the innocent bystander at Wal-Mart would not have been shot. :banghead: Some people take everything too seriously.

I was at this store just yesterday and spoke to the lady at in sporting goods about the ammo shortage. The subject of the shooting came up and we talked about people OC'ing in the store. She says she don't have a problem with it but the young man helping her said they better have a permit if I see it (I wasn't carrying at the time). I proceeded to tell him that it is perfectly legal to OC in NC. He then started about the store policy won't let me carry and I ask if he had that policy handy and he changed his tune. Anyway the lady was helping someone and when she finished she said he didn't know what he was talking about and then told me that the store that was a 24hr Wal-Mart now closes at 1:00am and reopens @ 6:00am. All because of the shooting, the 2 stabings, and the asualts that have happen in the past so they were losing hours due to this. Maybe I should ask if they need an armed guard to patrol the place. (I am looking for work)

Goes to show there is always somebody that will mess up a good thing.

Funny, my first OC experience in there I stopped and talked to the security guard about it. No problem what so ever. My new neighbor works there. She said that they had problems with the same group on, I believe, Thursday nights. So they are closeing at night because of a few idiots one night a week. The manager is too cheap to pay the PD to patrol the parking lot. Once they quit paying the off duty cops the crime took off. Looks like I need to OC in there soon. Ask the clerk why no other store I OC at inHickory has a problem. :D
