Perhaps it is time to try a different approach. Let's go after those that DON'T enforce the current laws on the books. Start with Police Officers that merely confiscate contraband (drugs, guns, etc) and don't enclude these items in their arrest reports. Move on to Prosecutors that don't charge "special circumstances" (using gun while comitting other crime), and then by filing complaints on Judges that give the old "slap on the wrist" sentences for crimes involving guns.

Crack down on Dealers that are more interested in profits than following the laws that govern them. Nail a few "Straw Man Purchasers" that buy their guns in states with liberal laws, only to transport them to prohibitive states to be sold from the trunk of their car. Hey, maybe if the "prohibitive" states were to drop their restrictions and let the guns be sold legally then there would be less of a Black Market. Do you think?

It makes me choke to say so but Nancy Pelosi had a point when she suggested that there would be no more new gun laws from the current congress, there were enough already that just needed to be enforced.

Maybe it is time to eliminate Plea Bargaining and other forms of leniency when it comes to gun crime, using only those laws already on the books.

Kinda goes back to my comment that we now have ten thousand laws to cover the original ten...

As usual, a bunch of offensive right-wing drivel from our beloved Mr. Workman, clogging up the tubes here at OCDO. Why he has to take a reasonable article about crime and self defense and mire it up with anti-immigrant, anti-freedom, pro-drug war drivel is beyond me. Le sigh.

Oh well. At least he got the part about guns right.

Take all gun laws and trash 'em.

Murder is murder. If you commit murder, you're punished the same as anyone else who commits murder... regardless of the weapon. Getting 10 more years because you use a gun wrongly demonizes guns.

Robbery is robbery... it does not matter how you do it... it should be based on the fact that you do it. Giving someone 5 or 10 more years because they use a gun is stupid.

If we took most drug laws off the books, stopped putting people in jail for white collar crimes (rather, make them work off their crime under house arrest). And instantly deport any and all illegal alien criminals. We'd have room in the jails to keep the robbers, rapists and burglars in longer.

What do you mean gun control laws won't work? Look at how well our drug control laws have worked. Completely eliminated drug problems. Look at how well liquor controls worked during prohibition.I mean experience tells us the third time is the charm doesn't it?

Excellent idea, I suspect it won't happen any time soon since we are now the minority of Americans in this new age.

Problem is we are not effectively launching the masses in support, this is the age of groups feeding on the Constitution like tiny spores . Today large numbers fall prey to the groups that belittle, weaken and tear down our nation. We also have a large group that "want to avoid being labeled" not fighting with, or, against any group content with sitting the side lines, they will be the first on their knees weeping when it's all gone. We, those who wish America remain free with all the greatness are little and in the middle. This idea of must be PC is BS and suppresses the 1st. God Bless Miss California in standing by her convictions, not ashamed, nor frightened by the groups to express her own. The groups hell bent on destroying wish to leave nothing other than the freedom to take everything for themselves as the only right in the constitution to be upheld. This prospect is real, they have a PC ARMY leading the charge and the conquered silent as shields. Have the masses heard PC so much that its now the norm? Are Americans afraid to speak fearing the longer arm of a group in labeling, or converting us to the equal horrors of PC and silence? Perhaps we learned it wrong in school and really the "week survive". We need to watch other groups and how their campaign's gets noticed "Best Practices". Every day I see groups taking center stage in all forms of the media gaining support and creating change that weakens America. The fight of the 2nd in every form is to strengthen America and preserve what we already have, and receives minuet media attention. IMO this is the reason preserving the 2nd could lose, unless we adopt the "Best Practices" of other groups, and the "Different Approach" as amlevin mentioned.

The same ole no longer works, what people react to and what stokes their passion changes with every generation, and the younger generations is where we America is slipping away. They are learning less about free America, and hearing more everyday from the groups rights to take it away, sugar coated and all, maybe the ingredient are in the coffee and the donuts we consume.
Iím proudly straight. I'm free to not support Legalization, GLBT, Illegal Aliens, or the Islamization of America.
