Rifle Taken From Unmarked Grand Chute Police Car In Break-InCar Parked In Off-Duty Officer's Driveway
GRAND CHUTE, Wis. -- Authorities said an unmarked police car was among the vehicles hit by burglars in Grand Chute, and the culprits got away with a semiautomatic rifle and ammunition from the trunk of the squad. Grand Chute police said Friday the unmarked car was parked in the driveway of an off-duty officer's home when the break-ins occurred in the same area of town during the overnight hours. According to police, the rifle was in a black nylon case. Also taken were two fully loaded 30-round magazines for the rifle. Anyone with information about the break-ins is asked to call Grand Chute police.

Semi-automatic with two 30 round magazines? That does not sound like a rifle, that sounds like an assault weapon.

And the moral of the story, every night, bring holster(s) and firearm(s) in from car.

Personally, I would leave the holster on the dash and bring the gun in.

Anyone notice that they didn't list the serial number or model of the "rifle" stolen? How are we supposed to know what to look for.

That should bring back some memories of basic. "You will refer to your rifle only as M16A1 or rifle, not a gun.'

Grand Chute - Two police departments are searching for a semi-automatic rifle and ammunition that were stolen from an off-duty police officer's unmarked squad car. Martin says the police weapon was in an unmarked black nylon case. Two 30-round magazines also were taken from the squad car's trunk.

Lt. Jerome Martin of the Grand Chute Police Department says the police-issued rifle was taken from the car that was parked in the driveway of a Fox Valley Metro Police Department officer who lives in the town.

Martin says the weapon and ammunition were taken during break-ins of at least nine vehicles reported Friday. One of the targeted vehicles also was stolen and recovered Friday abandoned in a field in the town.

GRAND CHUTE — Two police departments are seeking leads Friday after a semi-automatic rifle and ammunition were stolen from an off-duty police officer’s unmarked squad car.
Lt. Jerome Martin of the Grand Chute Police Department said the police-issue .223 caliber Heckler & Koch G36K was taken from the car, which was parked in the driveway of a Fox Valley Metro Police Department officer who lives in the town.

The weapon and ammunition were taken during break-ins of at least nine vehicles reported Friday, Martin said. The break-ins took place overnight in neighborhoods surrounding the intersection of Lynndale and Capitol drives.

One of the targeted vehicles also was stolen and recovered abandoned in a field in the town Friday. An earlier report from a Grand Chute police supervisor said the owner of the stolen vehicle left the keys in the car.

The police weapon was in an unmarked black nylon case, Martin said. Two 30-round magazines also were taken from the squad car’s trunk.

“We’re not exactly sure how they got in (the squad car) yet,” Martin said.

The German-made G36K is a shortened version of an assault rifle. It is lightweight, with most of parts made of reinforced polymer.

I see the problem: "The German-made G36K is a shortened version of an assault rifle." If police carried defensive firearms this wouldn't have happened.

Menomonee Falls has MP-5's in the cars now, in a locked rack. Could not get it out, without a hacksaw. I would love to have a short G36... Hope the next cop locks it up! Think about it, our cops are putting GOOD guns on the streets!
