YAKIMA, Wash. — A woman was shot in the leg this afternoon, apparently hit by gang-related gunfire intended for a group of people in a neighboring yard, authorities said.

She was being treated at a local hospital for what was believed to be a noncritical wound, police Sgt. Tim Bardwell said.

The shooting was reported about 2:20 p.m. in the 1300 block of Roosevelt Avenue, just two blocks east of a gang-related shooting that seriously wounded a 13-year-old girl last Monday.

The victim in that case was hit by a round fired through the exterior wall of her duplex after the suspects confronted an adult resident in the driveway. Police said the family had no gang or drug ties; the circumstances remain under investigation.

Bardwell said it was too early to tell whether the two incidents were connected.

Vehicles and houses on two lots were hit in this afternoon’s shooting, when at least one gunman fired multiple rounds from the alley south of Roosevelt, Bardwell said.

Another woman sitting in a vehicle suffered a minor cut from a glass or a bullet fragment, he said.

The suspect vehicle, described only as gray, left the area.

Investigators were speaking with witnesses in hopes of developing more information about the case.

BROWNSTOWN, Wash. — Three people were wounded in a shooting at a party in the Brownstown area early Sunday, authorities said.

One was being treated at Harborview Medical Center in Seattle; the other two were taken to Yakima Regional Medical and Cardiac Center, FBI spokeswoman Robbie Burroughs said in an e-mail message.

Yakima County sheriff’s deputies, Yakama Nation police and other agencies were dispatched about 4:45 a.m. to the 4700 block of Brownstown Road for a report of a shooting at a large party.

Sheriff’s deputies turned the case over to tribal police after assisting, authorities said.

Tribal police and the FBI typically handle cases involving tribal suspects and victims on the reservation.

No arrests have been made, and the investigation was continuing, Burroughs said.

She said she had no other information to release.
