The Open Carry community will probably get a good laugh out of this.

Seattle Gun Rights Examiner tells King County, WA executive to 'Buy a pistol, learn to use it' in response to a recommendation from Sheriff Sue Rahr that the executive’s security detail be deleted to save money in the department’s budget

The Seattle Mayor should also drop his police escort everywhere he goes. If he's doing his job right, why does he need police protection?

Oh wait!! I forgot! He's NOT doing his job right....

    Never mind.....

It's not about protection or safety.

I bet fully 80% of the people in the county couldn't even tell you who the exec is and of those who could 70% probably wouldn't recognize him if they were next to him.

That my friend is a problem for the self-absorbed politicians who need to be fawned and fussed over. Having a protection detail and a driver says "I AM SOMEBODY!" It is a status symbol and a way to show how powerful and important they are. The job is more about stroking ego than protection.

I've work for KCSO for nearly 17 years, can't ever recall any threat against the execs being made. Ron Sims is (was) so important that if his house alarm was tripped, the alarm co was directed to call us (even though he lives in the city of Seattle and is not in our jurisdiction). We were directed to then relay the info to SPD so they could respond as well as send Sheriff's deputies.

For anyone unfamiliar with SOP, this is a MUCH higher level of service than anyone else in the county would get.
