The pike isn't nearly as bad as it used to be. It's been years since I worked the area but then Blackwell was still there, the Brown's were still a big factor in the area and Ruffin Road, Belmont (I think it was Belmont or Belleview, something like that) and all areas of lowlife in between.

Even Brown Automotive which was owned by Lester Brown, the uncle of the notorious Browns, is gone now. Lester was an interesting fellow but contributed to a lot of the traffic in the area.

It was entertaining though. There was a young lady of virtue:what: named Big %itty Pam who worked the Highway Motel. In addition to entertaining guests, she sold drugs out of the motel and sent the buyers across the street to a used tire lot to use them. You could park in one of the lots nearby, and watch a virtual parade go through the place.

Ah...the good old days:uhoh:

If that wasn't enough fun, there was a bar...excuse me, restaurent called the wagon wheel, or Chuck Wagon, that was good for at least one good fight a night. Then the topless biker bars down the street that changed names every month.
I dunno....I worked off of Stockton St. a few years ago....it may have improved. But it's still bad news.

RICHMOND, VA (WWBT) - Some south Richmond residents say they won't stand for crime anymore in their community. There have been at least seven robberies in the last week along the Jeff Davis corridor, one of them deadly.

Thursday night, residents walked for peace.Residentssay they're fed up! They say they've come too far for criminals to just come in and try to take over the streets again.

They joined together with police to take a stand against crime. Outside the Golden Food Market where nearly one week ago there was blood shed. Words of prayer.

"Father Godwe pray lord we pray for the unity of the people," said Pastor Douglas Ross of God Chasers International Church which hosted the prayer vigil and walk.

He along withresidents and police joined hands and pledged to stand together as one.

"We'llsend a message to every criminal mind and every predator who thinks they can come into this community and do what they did they'll think first before doing that," said Pastor Ross.

Their footsteps and voicesechoed through the community that has seen a recent spike in violence.

Overnight Thursday, gunmen robbed two women outside a Wendy's on Jeff Davis. Just days before a clerk was shot six times at the Golden Food Market, the owner of the Come and Go Food Mart was killed.

"Idon't think we're scaredI think we're just fed up," said south Richmond resident Ebony Griffin.

Richmond Police Chief Bryan Norwood reassured residents they're not going through this alone and that his department is doing everything it can to turn this community around.

"Thereason why we're here today is because we've been here and we're going to be here we're going to walk with you and continue this fight," said Chief Norwood.

We call it "The Pike" now and it's still somewhat of a playground - just new group, same rules.

Not very familiar with Richmond area. Can anyone post a map of this general district so I know where to stay away from when I come down to Richmond.

Here in NOVA rules are easy - stay the @#$% out of DC and PG county, MD. If you absolutely have to go into DC, stay away from South East.
Everything south of the river.

Not exactly correct. You can stop off at the Fredericksburg Rest Area on I-95S to get yourimmunizations and visa for a visit to South Richmond. There are several 7-11s along Rt 1 for those that avoid the interstates that also provide the service - look for the LOTTO signs (it's "code" for where to get them).

Be aware that the immunizations do not protect you from the things you might catch in Hanover County, especially from those tomatoes.

The Jeff Davis corridor is not the whole of South Richmond. We have Midlothian Turnpike, Hull Street, Semmes Avenue, Forest Hill Ave, Jhanke Rd & Buford Rd,Belt Boulevard & Commerce Road just to name a few other routes that will take you to tourist and historical places of interest (mostly robberies & killings, but a few kidnappings and locales of political shennanigans as well).

Grapeshot & I will host guided tours of the various homes of the stars of South Richmond. I offer a guided late-night tour of Jeff Davis on Friday, Saturday & Sunday. Both are, of course, BYOB (Bring Your Own Bullets).:D

stay safe.

Undocumented tourists must be escorted.

Please do not disturb the LE ladies in the performance of their duties.

It is not recommended that you entertain eating in an establishment that requires you to push #2 for English.

Have a wonderful day and thank you for calling.

One last thing....If you travel Jeff Davis highway after dark and need directions, do not ask any of the ladies on the street corners.

1. They will give bad directions and you will probably end up in Hillside Court. It is a dead end.

2. They aren't ladies.

3. They are NOT female.

4. They may rob you!

Do not ask at the City motel either. They may be female but are not ladies. The other warnings above apply,

If you stop for food and there is a sign that says "No Colors", they are not talking about race.

When you get to the store with a guided missile in front, you can stop.

Oh....last thing. If you are killed there and assuming you make your way to heaven and meet Jeff Davis himself, DO NOT MENTION Jeff Davis Highway. I understand it is a sore subject and is cause for an Azz Whuppin.

Permit me to be politically incorrect here. I'm notorious for doing that anyway.

There is a take away lesson here: Parades and candlelight vigils and demonstrations to "take back the streets" may have their place, and they may "feel" good, but there is no demonstrable evidence they do squat about rates of violent crime in a community.

Perhaps it is time for the decent folks in this neighborhood and others like it to "get involved" in some meaningful and effective way. Many could get CC permits, or failing that, start to OC when they go to convenience stores, supermarkets, gas stations, banks, etc., etc. If more Good Samaritans are regularly seen on the streets, despite the predictable outcry against "more guns on the streets", the community might see a major plunge in violent crime. There would then be two positive outcomes: lives would be saved and the anti-gun forces would be seen for the frauds they are.

I hope the Good Samaritan turns out to be a Good Spokesman as well.
