My daughter And son in law took me to the Iron Horse resturant and casino for dinner.I asked at the desk if I was ok because the resturant was somewhat seoreated fromn the casino and kids were allowed.But while I was having my salad the manager came over and said they weren't comfortable with my weapon.I very politely explained Wa.law but they still asked me to leave it in the car.I said in a very nice tone that I would however when I told him I wouldn't come back and the resturant was going an a do not patronize list read by thousands of Wa. gun owners they were apologizing all over.Even got all sorts of extra service.I told him also I have been to many ,many resturants and have never been asked to leave my gun in the car.When I went to Billy Mchales a while back the assistant manager just came over and wanted to know more about the gun laws in this state.

I'm not sure how comfortable I am with the idea of using the DNP list like a sledgehammer, especially when "all sorts of extra services" were obtained, but I'm glad it worked out in your favor. It's good to know at least we *can* be taken seriously...

I think it is a good idea to use the list in such a manner. Fire with fire so to speak. The anti-gun people need to realize that they are in the minority and will stay that way.

Business decision leads to consequence, its perfectly reasonable.

Restaurants are especially aware of this concept and they are regularly visited by critics or influential customers who write columns about them after the fact, positively or negatively effecting their ratings and customer base.

It sounds like they were simply advised that other gun owners would be notified of their "stance" and the intended market would curb accordingly. Its not like Deros threatened them with picket signs and protests. :quirky

AND, no one is saying you or I cant go there "or else", just "be advised". Its the entire purpose of the DNP list.

So, was that a reversal of their decision in the end Deros? Or did you still take your pistol to the car?

I also note that they didn't as you to cover it, they asked you to take it out to the car straight off. :?

I have no problem with informing them of the possible consequences of their actions and decisions.

I doubt Deros said "Now give me some free sh!t or else". It is quite common for service businesses to provide a higher level of service to those that they feel can help the business. Doesn't mean the stuff was comped, just that the service notably improved once they realized he was in a position to help the business or hurt it.

Restaurants are one of those businesses that are taking a big hit with the economy and they probably realize that every check counts.

I see it this way, a business can welcome both pro-gun (X) and anti-gun folks (Y) and let them make their own decision on whether to patronize the business. A business wants the max number of customers it can get (C). It only makes sense to exclude a group if by doing so it increases your business by more than the excluded group would have brought.

Additionally, a business would have to promote or advertise this exclusion in order to "benefit" from it, otherwise how are their target customers going to know? While I have seen a few "Private Property - No Firearms" signs, Iv'e never seen one at a restaurant and I have certainly never seen a banner or sign proclaiming "GUN FREE DINING" to solicit business.

There are always going to be a number of people who would never come in the first place (a) and there may be a number of them who don't come because the other type is there (b). The subset b, really is only a part of the anti's, as we all know and expect that we will be amongst folks who are not armed and generally aren't concerned with avoiding them like some nervous folks are concerned with avoiding us.

Additionally, any time you make the decision to exclude (discriminate against) a group, there is also the potential for those who may not be a part of the group, but who are supportive of them (friends, family, etc.) who you will also alienate as well (f).

So do the math,

C= X + (Y-b) - a
or
C= Y - a - f

The question is, is "X+f" greater than or equal to "b" ?

Odds are it is. Either way, it doesn't take a math major to see that you have the greatest number of potential customers by not excluding group X.

I didn't threaten them with a listing on the no patronize list.They did NOT give us anything for free .I informed them that this was the only resturant that has ever asked me to put it in the car and that I would list them on the no patronize list..They just seemed over apologetic and overly attentive to our table.

I don't use any of this for gain or anything personal.I resent it being impied that I did.

I'm sorry, I didn't intend any offense. I think I got the wrong impression from your original post.

Exactly. Many shop owners/managers are against guns because they are worried about losing customers. If they find out that they will lose more customers the other way around, they might lighten up to the idea. Anyone ever think of also complaining to the BBB on places that are absurdly rude.

Hate to be a naysayer, but I dont think this rises to the level of do not patronize. They changed their stance and did not trespass him out.

Seems like a win for OC.

I would call first and find out what their official policy is. I know most casinos ban firearms and they have signs posted on the doors. Don't know about the one you attented though.

Thanks for the clarification. In that case list away.

For me, if I have already been served and then asked to leave, I will leave without finishing my meal and without paying a cent.

At the point they ask me to leave, they will loose a paying customer. They have made their decision at that time that they don't want my money, so they will not get any of it.
