Hey there, everybody. I'm traveling to Virginia in a few days to visit my father. I have a Georgia carry permit, but it is not valid in Virginia. I need to know about openly carrying in VA. Where can I carry? Where can't I carry? Can I carry in my vehicle? Where at in the vehicle?

If you can point me to some information, I'd be quite thankful.

Also include GMU to the do not carry list. As for the car, just lay it on the seat where it is clearly visible.

As noted, you can open carry legally with no permit here.

If you are going to visit here often you might want to consider a Virginia non resident concealed carry permit to give yourself more options (especially while driving if for some reason you can't lay the gun on the seat in plain sight)

ALso the VCDL newsletter The Defender on pages 5-6 runs a "where carry is legal" piece that you can cut out and fit in your wallet.

Thanks for the replies! A friend of mine from Virginia also helped explain some of the nuances. I should be fine. I'm only staying for three days, mostly in Virginia Beach.

I'll definitely consider getting a non-residential permit. What's the requirement for one?
