Thoughts on the S&W 1006?

I love S&W autos, and the more I read about 10mm the more I want something chambered for it.

So has anyone owned or used a 1006? How much do they go for these days? I saw only two on gunbroker and they were both way too much money ($700+). That seems a couple hundred too high.

Also, do they have any trouble standing up to full-power loads?

You could check out the EAA Witness or Witness Compact in 10mm auto.
There's also the Glock 20 and 29. They're all more reasonably priced 10mm autos.

Kimber makes some 10mm autos in the Custom II (Stainless Target II 10mm) and the Eclipse Custom II 10mm. There's the Colt Delta Elite 10mm auto too. With both brands, you're probably getting out of the price range you're interested in.

Dan Wesson and Wilson Combat also make 10mm autos, but they're probably the most expensive.

I've considered those. I might end up getting one. But what I really, really want is a 1006.

I shot one of the early Colt Deltas and it put me off of 10MM for 10 years I remember that it just beat the hel out of me and was really unpleasent to shoot (YMMV).

It wasn't until I shot a Glock 20 that I fell in love with the 10MM rnd. I now own 2 G29's and a seperate upper to convert to 45acp. The Glock 29 has become my favorite outdoors gun. It will be the gun that goes hunting with me this year.

200grn hard cast lead at 1300 ft/s and 750ft lbs of muzzle energy for hunting still carying 550ft lbs at 100yds, OR
135grn Nosler HP at 1600 ft per second and 767ft lbs of energy for SD.

The polymer frame of the Glock Flexes and absorbs the recoil making even the hardiest of 10mm much more manageable then the all steel frame guns

Yeah, the Glock is looking pretty good. The 1006 is better-looking IMO, but you can't argue with 15-round mags of 10mm.

Are the Glock 20s any costlier than other models?
