My wife and I live in Brigham city so we don't have a sams club or costco near our home. Well today we decided to visit both stores to see which one we wanted a membership at. So we first stopped at the costco in Ogden. We walked in and started looking around. After 20 minutes or so the store manager and another employee came up to me and told me that I cannot have a weapon of anykind in the store and that there was no need to have a gun inside costco; I told him i bet someone thought that about trolly square, And virgina tech. And that i carry it for mine and my familys protection. At this point i think my wife was alot more upset than i was. She told them we will never be back to their store and that we will be telling everyone we know about our experiance today at their store. By this time and Ogden police officer showed up and along with the two employees walked with us to our car. Well needless to say we went to sams club and walked around with no problems. Thanks costco for helping us decide which store we wanted a membership at.

Glad it went well. I two decided on Sams Club a long time ago as well. The funny thing about Costco was I used to do Armed Security at their West Valley Store due to thefts and assults in their Parking Lot.

The West Valley Still uses Armed Security to patrol their parking areas. So if I have to be disarmed to shop their. Then it is not a very good deal for me.

Good Luck not to mention the rash of shootings and gang violence in Ogden.

I regularly shop at the Costco in Bountiful while OC'ing and have never had a problem. I've talked with the door checker and managers after they noticed I was carrying and again no problem. I understand that they have a policy against open carry, but they've never enforced it on me.

Funny story, some months back I was in a back isle getting paper plates. The only other people in the isle were 3 police officers. One of them looked me over and then said: "Well, I guess everyone in this isle in carrying a Glock!" The other officers looked up, took in the situation and then chuckled.

Costco's "No firearm" policy is part of the fine print in the terms of membership. If you become a Costco member, you must sign an application that states this prohibition.

http://www.costco.com/Images/Content/Misc/PDF/08EX0629_ServBro.pdf

If somebody already has a Costco membership, and wants to let Costco know how they feel about this, they will refund your membership fee in full at any time if you are dissatisfied.

Sam's Club's (Wal-Mart's) unofficial policy is to abide by State and local laws concerning the possession of firearms.

My wife and I have never had any problems openly carrying in the Utah County Costco stores, or the Provo Sam's Club.

However, TJ, b1ack5mith and I were escorted out of the 53rd South and StateCostco last yearby the store manager.

Sorry to hear that you were treated so poorly at Costco. I am not a fan of Costco. I go there on occasion with my g/f that has a membership, but I won't buy one. I have a Sam's club membership and like it quite a bit more than Costco. Costco seems to shuffle their entire inventory around every time I am there. So if I go for the same item there, each time I have to search for it. So stupid.

I like Costco a lot more than Sam's. Better products (esp. fresh food), better prices, cleaner store, much better food court area, IMO.

I have OC'd at the Salt Lake, West Valley, Murray, Sandy and Orem Costcos many many times without ever being approached.

I do usually CC at Costco since most of the time I hit it on my lunch break or on the way home from work.
