I just signed up for the forum and would like to know how to get in touch
with Oregon members. Also, I have suggestions how best to move the movement
forward. As an Open Carry event is newsworthy let me suggest an education
strategy. Just a few points.
* Organize picnics and other events in parks and public venues and
have a presence at gun shows, county fairs, etc.
* Have literature to educate the public to local open carry laws
* Invite police, mayors and other public figures to the event as well
as media so as to broadly educate the masses
* Call radio talk shows, local media and so forth. Get the discussion
before the people.

I have talked to local police officers in my area and find that they are
unaware of open carry laws. Their greatest fear is that people would be
alarmed by seeing a gun. They as well as the public need to be educated as
to the laws in their state. If the education is there, then people, and the
police, will be less alarmed when they see someone open carry. We will run
into trouble and unnecessary confrontations if we fail to educate before we
exercise our rights in a community. We ourselves need to be well informed
about the laws in our state. We must present ourselves well. I suggest that
you come up with several talking points that members will clearly know and
be able to address in a rational matter that puts our best foot forward.
Perceptions will either advance or kill a movement and we need public
support, even though the law is on our side.

We also need to be ready to sue when our rights are violated. Intimidation,
even by police, is unlawful. As guns have a negative public image currently,
we need to change that perception positively by being informed, calm and
determined. There is much more I could say but you get the idea.

We need to take a lesson from our adversaries. Organize, educate, exercise.

I think what needs to happen is that someone need to pick up this ball and run with it, and then everyone else will get behind an organized meet. Unfortunately that person is not me. I'm consumed with a house project and cannot organize this.

I would definitely get behind the picnic idea for sure, and would gladly assist in some way if there's a person out that can take the lead. Pehaps some flyers posted at all the area gun stores directing everyone to thisforum to register for a picnic?? I'm all for it.

Can someone out there pick up this ball and run with it?

I'll run with it. How about a monthly gathering at the Bomber restaurant in Milwaukie, Or. The owner is a friend of mine. How about a meet and greet on a Thurs nite Aug 13 6:30 or 7PM?

My OC holster will be here by then. I should be able to make it.

Just need a kitchen pass and I'll be there.

Weekends or evenings work best for most people I'm sure (me included), too bad we couldn't have Lars Larson do a show from an OC event...

Crap... just got off the phone with the holster provider. My holster is back-ordered and won't ship till the middle of next week.

My wife's already on my back for how many 'accessories' I'm getting for my new handgun, so no way I'm going to be able to swing getting TWO holsters for ONE gun - at least not right away.

I have primed the pump, so to speak, by explaining that eventually I'll need an OC as well as CC holster, so... we'll see.

Looks like I'll be missing this event... Sorry guys, hopefully next time.

You do not need a holster or even a gun for the event. OC or CC is OK. Lar's has promoted it on his show. Clackamas T.E.A. party members are also interested. many gun advocates there. We may get media coverage so numbers become important. What has started out as a small gathering may have grown into a major event. Keep spreading the word and do come.

I'll be there!

I took my wife to a gun store "just to look":) and she caught a mild case of gun fever and allowed me to pick up a simple holster that fits my Glock minus the GTL22.

I might have been even able to swing buying an AR-15 at that moment, but I didn't want to push it.

Now that I'm appropriately equipped, I may have to try some local OC in Sherwood. I'll let you know how it goes.

Well it looks like it's a friends surprise birthday party that night, so even if I wanted to make the drive it looks like I'm out.

If those plans fall through though I'll come out to meet some people!

Auto: We need to meet up in Sherwood or Newberg sometime so we can do our coffee.

Inspire,

Sure, man, I'm down for coffee or a lunch meet any time - Newberg is a good a place as any - Sherwood is basically a strip mall. I have a flexible work schedule, and can take a long lunch anytime as long as I don't do it all the time. :)

I just moved up to Oregon about a year ago, and I'm still working on figuring out how to get around.
