Anyone with experience with Open Carry in Blacksburg?

I am going to be buying my first handgun in the next couple of months and was considering OCing in Blacksburg, where I live.

I used to OC there when I was a student at VT. I never had any issues at Macado's, Kroger, the ABC store, or anywhere else. Never had any problems in Christiansburg either. There are some older threads you can search for about people carrying both in Blacksburg and on the campus.

I've OC'ed in Macadoos when visiting my son at VT. No problems.

+1, no problems at most places. I was asked to leave PK's though, and I think the Rivermill is on VCDL's gun owners unfriendly list.

Rivermill? Yeah, I work there. The guy who owns it is a Texan and has a collection of his own guns at home.

I will have to talk to him about OCing in our bar and see what he thinks.

I have OC in the Christiansburg area a few times with no problems.

I've OCed pretty much all over Blacksburg with no problems including Kroger, McDonald's, Wendy's, Taco Bell, BK, Macado's, ABC store (both Blacksburg store and Christiansburg store), up and down mainstreet; the Walmart, Target, and Barnes and Noble in Christiansburg; through Foxridge, Terrace View, and other apartment complexes etc etc. I've never had any problems at any of the places, however I did have one guy freak out very briefly when I got my food from Alpha Pizzaria, and I had a brief conversation about it with another patron in the El Rodeo mexican restaurant. My roommate has also OCed many places in the area with no problems. We could meet up sometime once the fall semester starts for a blacksburg mini-OC dinner

Any experience with the Blacksburg police?

I've had them notice the gun maybe once, but they've never mentioned. However, I know of one guy that had the police called on him at the Fazoli's in Christiansburg and he said the cop was very polite and just talked to him very briefly and then left him alone. I've heard plenty of other good stories of encounters with the Blacksburg police though.

I OC'd to Steppin out (or whatever their downtown street festival is called). The police had to have noticed there, but nothing was said.
