Gun Clubs in Virginia

This may be the wrong place to post this but I am born and raised in Hampton, VA. I joined the military back in 2001 and got stationed in South Dakota where they absolutely love guns. I had a bunch of gun owning friends who loved to meet up and just have fun. 8 Years later I'm in the Navy now (long story) and stationed back in Norfolk but can't seem to find any gun clubs that aren't closed membership or even a group of friends that meet up for a good firearm discussion. I appreciate if anyone can give me a heads up on anything along those lines.

The range at Camp Allen is a pretty good deal. And, of course, go to some of the Open Carry dinners. Watch for the thread in this forum announcing the Tidewater area OC dinners. Usually about once a month...

I think DocV is saying one of the best ways to find "people to hang around" with is to go to some of the dinners. If I may be immodest, I believe most of the people in OCDO groups are very good people to hang with!

I have wanted to find some type of gun-club type setting where you could shoot and compare notes. I hear Lasalle in Grafton has some nice facilities but its private and membership is hard to get into.

The dinners are great in that you can talk to other gun fans, but the layout of the table restricts who you can talk to without shouting. Also restaurant noise sometimes makes it hard to hear people even sitting next to you. I think it would be smart of a gun range to add a room and give monthly demos of different weapons and allow people to meet up and socialize.

I am a member of the Marksman in NN and enjoy going there and talking to the staff but their staff turnover rate has been high and with the rush on guns they are usually to busy to "shoot the 'breeze' ". (swear filter caught me)

Let me know if you find a place that is like what I mentioned. At the dinners I would love to have everyone be able to pull out their guns and pass them around but don't think that would make the management happy. :X

Hey 45 we should get some people together and start one up. It wouldn't be too hard, just start small and go from there. Most gun clubs now a days are too stubborn to allow someone in unless they know someone ya know?

a sincere thank you for your service to our country. I am a member of the Lafayette Gun Club but we can't accept any new members at the present time. Couple of nice guns you have there. My wife just got me a 96FS with Crimson Trace grips for Christmas. They're very nice.

Send me an email and maybe we can get together some time and do some shooting.

The marksman is open to the public and membership is not restricted. They perform different training is a couple rooms they have. I took my CC class there and I know they train security guards. I'll talk to one of the owners and see if they are open to have a "gun club night" or two a month in one of their rooms. They close at 8pm though.

Currently members are only allowed 2 guests a year included in the membership. Part of the fun of seeing others guns is to go shoot them too. The do have military discounts and I think they have one night a month where military shoots for free.

Would love to be a member of LGC. I used to go there with a buddy (Pete - Cant remember his last name) in the late 90's. I should have tried to join then but I was young and broke.

Yes I need a place for my long guns but didn't apply way back when my friend could recommend me as a member. He let his membership slide. There are people on the forum that may allow their name to recommend you but as you saw no applications are being processed now. I figure if I apply now 2-3 years from now I may get a phone call.

I guess there is always the Chickahominy WMA to "sight in" my AR.
Chickahominy is actually a pretty nice range for long guns it just is about an hours drive (15 minutes on dirt/gravel) and only open during hunting season. There is no information online that I have found as far as whenthe rangeopens or hours. They only allow rifles and shotguns but no pistols. The intent is to allow hunters a place to sight in their gun before hunting.

LGC is about 10 minutes from me if I ever get in.

Thanks, I know I searched and found some Chickahominy site before but it didn't have the range info in it. I have my long gun for zombies so haven't hunted in VA yet. (neither zombies or deer)
You have to wait til Zombie season...that might be your problem lol.
