Jackson County (Medford).

I OC 100% except at school (Community College) where I OC my empty holster and am VERY vocal about the schools unlawful policy attempting to regulate lawful carry by licensed individuals. I'm trying to file a grievance but English Comp has been really whipping me this quarter and last. I also UOC in the PRK (Kalifornia) when I'm down there ... you think it's bad in Portland? Try Kali.

My wife is also on board, though she CC's. She'll be me audio/visual recording buddy as it warms up and I get more active (i.e. activist). We would love to do some OC get togethers even if we have to travel up to Salem or Portland to participate (so long as schedules allow).

If there is enough support in the Southern Oregon area, we'd be up for hosting an Shin Dig at our place. Airstrip in the back yard, a 50 yard range (bare basics and a somewhat short back stop), plenty of room for tents or RV's.

I check the forum almost every day, I just don't post that often if I don't have something very relevant to say. I hate reading those 25 page posts that you have to skim read through the crap to get to the relevant details.

I usually just CC in the pocket out of lazy convenience, but I do OC occasionally, especially for a quick trip to the quicky mart or when out shooting.

I check here from time to time, live in Springfield.

I don't yet carry, but like to keep myself informed, and just ordered a nice serpa holster for when I can. Mostly the only reason I don't OC is because I would like to have my CHL first, just to be on the safe side.

Gad, WTH is going on here? The Portland Metro Area is the most heavily populated, and yet the majority of Oregon posters hail from Southern Oregon!

I just found this site today. After spending all day reading, I want to thank each and every one of you for what you are doing here. I will definately be considering doing some OC in the near future in the downtown portland area. Perhaps the most likely area to attract unwanted attention, but that just means it's needed more, as it's also less safe here. Once again.... Thank you everyone.

Foxcedar,
Welcome to OCDO. A word of caution about carrying in Portland and the metro area, most cities in the metro area, including Portland, have passed ordinances against carrying a loaded firearm within their city limits without a CHL. Portland has gone even farther and banned carrying a loaded magazine or speed loader. Just don't want you to find out the hard way.

Thank you for the concern, I guess I shouldn't have assumed that anyone considering such a thing would be fully aware of all applicable laws and their enforcement. While I was previously knowledgeable about the laws, I am much more so after the reading I did here yesterday. Thanks Again.

Hello All....Gary from Vancouver and like many of us, I work in OR. Don't have my OR permit yet, but need to get one as I frequently travel in OR and go shooting out in the hills towards the coast.

Follow the OR forum almost as close as the WA one and would be up for a get together.

I'm not sure how the Portland area is for non-resident CHL issue but the GRANT COUNTY Sheriff WELCOMES adjoining state non-resident applicants.

While they SHALL issue to Oregon residents, it is MAY issue to non-residents from adjacent states. The Grant County Sheriff is on the record that you WILL be issued when you pass the background.

Hi We-The-People,

It has been awhile since I last posted but I was glad to see this post because I too went back to school this last fall. I guess we are on spring break this week together!

I got a position with the student government at the community college I am attending and, believe it or not, getting some support for being student body president next year!

My point to all of this is that I had a conversation with the dean of students about the gun's in school issue. They are pretty staunch about no guns and waiting for the outcome of the Maxwell case.

I still carry concealed on campus. I would rather be judged by twelve than carried by six of my friends!

I went to a student government retreat where we all sat around for a day and a half and talked about issues. I played kick ball with the group while wearing my combat boots and wearing my pistol concealed! Marvelous!

I suppose that if my weapon ever peeks out of my shirt, I will be in big trouble. Hope it does not happen.

I suppose that if a bad-guy came into a class shooting and I was able to end the situation I might be a hero but still punished by the rules....hope that never happens either.

IF YOU END UP GETTING "MADE" FOR THE LAWFULLY CONCEALLED PISTOL JUST REMEMBER.......

The school can not arrest you, they can have you take the pistol off campus or even escort you off campus, they can not search you without your permission, etc., but they can not arrest you. If they call police, you should have a copy of ORS 166.262 ON YOU (as well as your CHL) to present to the police.

ORS 166.262 states:

166.262 Limitation on peace officer's authority to arrest for violating ORS 166.250 or 166.370. A peace officer man not arrest or charge a person for violating ORS 166.250 (1)(a) or (b) or 166.370(1) if the person has in the person's immediate possession a valid license to carry a firearm as provided in ORS 166.291 and 166.292.

166.250 is the general prohibition on carry concealed and 166.370 is the prohibition on carrying in/on "public buildings" which includes the college (only private colleges are different and they may trespass you).
