Wow T Vance that's a heck of a story you have there, so sad to see that some LEO's even when they realize their wrong still try to save face at the expense of law abiding citizens. Scary that these folks are supposed to be college educated.

"Additionally, I have taken an oath to support and defend the Constitution against all foreign and domestic enemies. What better way to fulfill that oath than to OC on a daily basis to show support for the part of the Constitution that is under attack the most?"

You know Navy LT I myself also took that oath once and to be honest I never looked at it that way...until now, Thank you

You know DanM, the more I read on this site the more educated I become in addition to kicking myself in the pants for being so complacent. Thanks for the education.

IN SEARCH OF THE 2ND AMENDMENT VIDEO

DO YOU HAVE A RIGHT TO POLICE PROTECTION

WARREN v. DISTRICT OFCOLUMBIA (Wikipedia)

DeSHANEY v. WINNEBAGO COUNTY (Wikipedia)

CASTLE ROCK v. GONZALES (Wikipedia)

It is logistically impossible for the police to proctect individuals. In order for that to happen each person would need to have an officer follow them around 24/7.

Ifthe courts had ruledthat the police did have a duty to protect individuals then every time they didn't show up in time to prevent the crime they could be sued for dereliction of duty.

Eryk, I concur w/ almost everything everyone said and think most of us probably started with some of the same concerns that you have. But, I think that you may be pleasantly surprised at the advantages that OC has over cc (+ the ability to "desensitize" the gun owner stereotypes that are out there).

Since you have a cpl, I would think that you believe that you should be able to carry wherever/whenever you choose. For me, this is what really started my OC interest and I began my foray into oc by continuing to cc most of the time ,switching to oc in "cpl cc prohibited" areas. (I don't go to casinos, so that exception is not an issue for me)

I think the real advantage for a cpl holder is that by OCing, the cpl "no cc zones" become a non-issue and it extends the ability to protect myself and others. As you get used to OC, perhaps you will discover, as most of us have, the comfort of carrying along with firearm accessibility is improved.

Welcome, and I hope you stay awhile....

Reason's why I, Richard "office888" M., open carry:

1.) I'm 20 years old. I cannot legally get my CPL yet. At the same time though, I frequent quite a few stores, and go to friends' houses in not-so-great areas of Kalamazoo/Comstock. My 1911A1 is my life insurance.
2.) I'm a student that's trying to get his law degree, so this seems like a good experience to have.
3.) People ask questions. I like helping people know more. I'd say about 1:4 people that actually ASK me about open-carry, are interested because they thought only CPL holders could carry, and even then, it HAS to be concealed. Who knows? Maybe that knowledge will get one of the women I've talked to, to carry a means of defending themselves, and it might save them from someone's evil pursuits.
4.) It lets me stand up for what I believe in. I'm a huge 2A supporter. I view it as one of the most important, if not, THE most important part of the Bill of Rights. Without it, the government could strip freedoms as they please.

It doesn't really bother me to be stopped, because I KNOW it's legal and that there's nothing they can do about it.

I am glad to see all the responses to my inquiry it's good to hear everyone's viewpoint on this. I am glad this site exists not only for the OC aspect but also as a very good source of information on a variety of related issues, because it seems to me that the powers that be would just rather the masses not know.

I have always found that their are 3 sides to every story Navy LT, yours, theirs and the truth. I like being here because I get alot of the latter and it's good to know their are still people around who are not brain dead.
