I OC because I haven't gotten my CCP yet. I took a class, I just don't have the money to blow on it right now. I don't go anywhere without my pistol, but normally I leave it in the truck. Today I had to run a bunch of errands and figured "Eh, what the heck?" The pistol that goes everywhere with me is my 5" OD green Springfield GI 1911 with Pachmyr grips, and it lives in one of those black leather holsters(with the checkered pattern) like cops used to wear back in the day

First stop was Hardee's to get breakfast. Two people were inside eating, along witht he staff, nobody batted an eye.

Next step was Wal-Mart, I had to make several trips around the store(they didn't have my perscription ready and I had to track down my friend) and it was completely uneventful. A few people looked, one kid said "Wow! Nice pistol!", most other people didn't seem to notice.

Next stop was Ben Franklin Crafts to grab a new sketch book, nobody even seemed to notice it.

From there I ran into a gas station to grab a pack of smokes. The clerk looked down at the gun, then to me, but didn't say a word. Paid and left with no issues.

Then I had to go to Safeway. There was a couple in their early 20's I'd guess from Illinois that were walking in behind me. I could hear them talking about "That guy has a gun!" "That's so illegal". The trip through the store was uneventful, until I got in line. While the cashier commented that he liked the look of my pistol and was a 1911 lover, the people behind me acted like I'd drawn it and started firing. They kept going on about how "people like you are why we need gun control, there's no need for someone like you to carry" "You're in a grocery store, nobody's gonna get you" blah blah blah. The couple were in their mid 50's and looked like burnt out hippies. Dreadlocks and earth tones, and they bought all organic food, stereotypical of me to say, but hey, if the shoe fits. I really don't know which upset them more, the pistol on my hip, or my Gadsen flag hat. The cashier rolled his eyes at them and we went on talking about 1911's and let them wring their hands and bitch and moan.

Final stop before home was to the Real Food Store aka Hippie Store. I needed a few spices, and they've got them in bulk for a good price. Well, I knew that place would have been the biggest issue if I'd worn it in there. So, I take the pistol out and stick it under my seat, then put my shirt over my empty holster. With the shirt over the holster, about an inch or so stick out from the bottom of the shirt. Several of the employees looked at me with extremely worried looks on their face and would not take their eyes off my hip. One customer turned down the aisle I was in, looked straight at me, then to my hip, turned around and left the aisle. I can only imagine what would have happened if I'd worn it.

So, besides some looks and a few compliments, nobody seemed to care :monkey
Definitely gonna be doing a lot more around town.

Here in the Flathead Valley, we aredrowning intree hugger, bark bitin', dirt worshipin',hippy freaks and their teenage cell phone, iPod, spoiled rotten punk kids who wear the least amount of clothing as possible apparently trying to pass themselves off as porn stars. This part of the year is the worst with the tourist season.

I hate having todeal with these leftist liberal wackjobs. I have zero faith that they will ever accept the idea of self protection (that's what the cops are for, right?). They'll allow a "gay pride" parade in downtown Kalispell, but you think for a minute that they'd allow a Montana Gun Owners Open Carry parade - not for a minute.

shoulda educated them, and shoulda walked into the hippy store with it on. if its legal, they dont have a sign posted, then do it.
The places where the public is least likely to be accepting of OC are the places we OC'ers need to OC at the most.

I'm willing to be told to leave by a store manager or a Loss Prevention manager. I'll leave if asked, but I won't change the way I dress for them.

The dandelion-eating daisy-kissing neo-hippies wear their hemp and stinky dreadlocks. That crap isn't for me, but I'm not trying to legislate away their right to have hemp wallets. OC is for me, and if they don't like it, they can find somewhere else to live. It's friggin' MONTANA, not San Francisco...
