Thread: Question from a new guy!
Hi everybody! My name is Theo and I just came across this website today. I'm eighteen years old and I am going to be attending my first year of college this upcoming week.
I'm a strong advocate for the second amendment, and I've always said " As soon as I'm old enough I want to carry a gun to protect myself and my family. " Unfortunately, I didn't do my research.
I live in Oklahoma City, Oklahoma and I'm unsure where exactly I can find the law. Do you have to be eighteen or twenty-one to lawfully open carry a sidearm?
Secondly, if it's eighteen and I am indeed eligible, how do I go about acquiring the necessary paperwork to do such a thing.
Welcome to OCDO! Unfortunately, you are completely out of luck in Oklahoma. Open carry in Oklahoma is completely illegal, with or without a permit. I am pretty sure the age limit for a concealed permit is 21 in Oklahoma. You can only transport your firearm in a vehicle, unloaded, and it must be visible in the vehicle or in a case that remains visible. Outside the vehicle, you musttransport the firearm unloaded and in a case.
Check out the Oklahoma Shooters Association website and forum, they are a great bunch of folks and the classifieds section usually has some great deals on private sales of firearms.
