The place I am renting is built into a mountain, so there is a great backdrop. I live "just outside" the city limits of Phoenix and have two acres. Can I shoot into the mountain? Someone posted below the 1/4 rule only applies to hunting, is that correct?

The 1/4 mile rule ONLY applies to hunting. You can shoot off your back porch as long as you have a good backdrop, and there is nothing in the immediate vicinity of the shooting. The opperative ARS section is reckless discharge (13-2904A6). Is where you are shooting a reckless act?

ARS13-3107A (unlawful discharge) only covers shooting within municipal limits. Within town limits, there is a 1 mile rule.

Our mountains contain a lot of rock that tends to re direct bullets. Ricochets are your responsibility as well as direct aimed rounds.

Loud noise can also be considered disturbing the peace.

You might want to take time to know your neighbors before cutting loose.
