FYI: Our rangemaster imposed a rule requiring all openly carried firearms to be unloaded. Concealed Pistol License holders were allowed to conceal carry loaded.

Sorry for bringing up this otherwise dead post, but...whyunload the open carriers? Especially at an open carry gathering.

Guess I don't understand how making people who open carry unload their weapons, despite them having the competence to carry it loaded the rest of the time, shows any support for OC or improves safety in any way.

It was a social gathering - when people are handing around firearms to share the feel, give a closer look, it's best to have those firearms unloaded.

If people are just going to stand around OCing, and leave their firearms holstered, then by all means keep them loaded. But if people are showing off rare guns as was the case here, and handing them around, then best to be unloaded - just because we have a right to OC doesn't mean we want a half dozen loaded pistols floating around the room....:dude:
