Members of Idahos Open Carry Movement will be hosting a Meet and Greet on Saturday September 6th at Caldwell Municipal Park

The purpose of The Meet and Greet is to educate The Public that Open Carry is a perfectly legal, economically viable option to Concealed Carry. Open Carry has been Legal in Idaho for over 100 Years. It does not require an expensive permit and a 90 day wait. The Meet and Greet will be held at Caldwells Memorial Park located at the corner of Kimball and Grant Street. A link to a map will be posted below. If you have any questions or want to confirm your attendance please email me at mikelud2002@yahoo.com or call/text me at 480.430.2569

Guess I will be the new guy and ask what may be a somewhat inflammatory question.

If it looks like more than "a few" folks are going to show, maybe we should consider a courtesy notification of the Sheriff and PD.

Yes, it is a specific right acknowledged by the Constitution and the laws of our state, but there is also the opportunity to demonstrate that we are not seeking a confrontation. Remember in the recent reactions to the AR-carrying guy in Phoenix thecommon responses included that hewas trying to force a confrontation in order to make a point.Prior notification (which he did do) would still result in achieving the education of LLE and allow us to relax knowing there would be no face-off with authorities.

Further, if more than "a few" people are showing up, maybe we should push this a bit more by promoting this through local gunstores, rangesand instructors such as Impact, Black Creek, Cabella's, Zebra 12, Triple Threat, Sportsman's, etc.

We can discuss (I hope) here andalso ad hoc on Wednesdayas to the merits of being more public.

I'm all for non-confrontationalism, but I'm not sure that we need to call ahead and let someone know that we are going to be doing something perfectly legal. That being said though, I do think it would be funny if someone did call the LE, and their dispatch simply told them that they were doing nothing illegal and hung up on them.

My three gun shops that I frequent (Boise Gun, Alpha/Omega/Zebra 12) all pretty much have the same disposition on people who OC. They really aren't that concerned about the responsible and educated citizen, rather the opposite. It's the ignorant and careless person who accidentally discharges the firearm in their shop that makes them on edge, which is the probably the reason many of the request that you don't bring a loaded gun into their shop. IMO it probably makes all of us a little nervous when we are unaware of another's skill level.

Nobody is saying we need to. That's why it says "consider a courtesy notification". As you say, it WOULD be a MAJOR step in the right direction if 911 dispatchers got used to these events, gained an understanding of the lawand began asking the proper questions when they get those MWAG calls:

Is the gun out of the holster?

Are threats being made?

Is a fight in progress?

Have shots been fired?

Maybe we could get them to also ask:

Are people grilling burgers and making ice cream?

Are children playing frisbee?

Did they bring enough chicken for the SWAT Team?

I agree. I've called ahead for many events over several years. These meetings aren't new folks and they should already be used to us now.

Personally, I'm done trying to educate the police.

Off topic slightly: I've been thinking about the "man with a gun call" issue. This was a passing thought, but I was thinking to myself "What would happen if everytime I saw I cop I called the police and reported a man with a gun?"

Seems to me if they have reason for concern seeing me with one, I should be concerned too.

Well I am planning on notifying. So no worries. Probably bout same time I try and get the chief or someone to show up. Now that being said. Everyone feel free to put thisup in your favorite gun shop or place to go. I dont care. The more the merrier. Reference this site, this state (of course) and the correct thread. Probably have one started Sun/ Mon to see what food people want to bring, if any. And til everyone shows up, it is still just a few :)

Now my thoughts on the media are split. I think we should grass roots advertise for now and maybe later this month, early next month with numbers much higher, invite the press to see us. But we will discuss this more in length.

I agree, if the media is there and the cops happen to pass by and we are not escorted from the PUBLIC PARK then those who called or see this may think....hey I guess the LLE can't kick these guys out for doing something that is legal.

Ofcourse what is said in front of the camera must be said wisely.

Is is possible, or is it planned to have some sort of banner "open carry is legal" or something of the sort?

I dont have a plan for that actually. That is something we need to do however, not so much a banner but some posterboard signs will need to be put up.

if we do lets attach to our vehicles.. i readthe caldwell city code, in my opinion, it looks like we need a permit to post signs unless they are connected to vehicles..
