I just read that you can carry a pistol openly, even in restricted areas, if you have a cpl. But what about rifles? Are there any restrictions on carrying rifles in Michigan?

I wouldn't advise it unless your on your own property. They would probably accuse you of brandishing. In Jennifer Granholm's opinion (I found this bit in the MI section of OCDO) she mentions handguns only and says nothing about long guns.

It is my opinion, therefore, …by carrying a handgun in a holster that is in plain view, does not violate section 234e of the Michigan Penal Code, which prohibits brandishing a firearm in public. JENNIFER M. GRANHOLM, Attorney General

I'd ask a member from Michigan just to be 100%
