Oh, if many of the "soldiers" in my company had weapons, I don't want to think about it.

Instructors telling you what to do? You had language? They just grunted and pointed at us.Citizen wrote:Ha!Tomahawk wrote:OK. You win. I can't top that one.Citizen wrote:You actually had fire? Had to sharpen them on a rock and hold them in a fire to harden the point. And you know what the DI said when he found excess carbon on the end of the stick!!
We messed around with fire, but found that not being able to walk upright we were always getting scorched, so we left those lightening-struck trees alone.
And you had Drill Instructors? In my Corps drill had not yet been invented. We just had Instructors, who spend all day telling us what to do and how to do it and why we were doing it wrong and that we would never get it right.
stay safe.

Yes, well, that's why after doing some thinking I didn't want to serve the government anymore. What really :cuss: lights me up, though, is the fact that I have to give up my Constitutional right to self defense in order to go to work on base or when in uniform off base! How is it that an officer sworn to support and the defend the Constitution cannot carry a privately owned gun for self protection when in service to the government. That really torques me!

Wow, you guys had fire? We had to chew the end of our sticks to make them pointy. After all that chewing it usually ended up being a soft mushy point. We often time resorted to just carrying rocks instead.skidmark wrote:Spears? You mean, like with flint heads? Wow! all we had was sharpened sticks. I guess this is my perception of being a military bratt on the outside in and I do not undertsnd the comept of Soldiers giving up their right to defence because when theres a riod raged soldier the only thing taking them down or anyone else is a bulklet to the head, but soldiers are a dime a dozena and I dont need a father and your guys kids can live off what the VA gives them right? so @#$%ed up
As much as I hesitate to join this party I might be able to offer some insite, valuable or not. When we stood line watch over our aircraft at home bases in Florida back in 1965 the person on duty was issued a .45w/ holster and guard belt. US Navy BTW. That is untill one night one of the lads got bored and decided to disassemble his weapon in the hangar. One of the springs got away from him and he turned in the weapon at the end of his watch as a hat full of loose parts. After that episode we got nite sticks. Never underestimate the abillity of a bored 19 year old to screw up anything.
Now THAT is a funny story. I remember some ironic ones, too... Back when they had Marines at the gates of NAS Norfolk, the Marines from the Marine Barracks (right next to gate 3A) carried loaded 45's at the gate... until one of them shot another during the "Changing of the Guard". My dad told me they took their ammo away from them after that. :cuss::banghead::what::uhoh:As much as I hesitate to join this party I might be able to offer some insite, valuable or not.
