Spears? You mean, like with flint heads? Wow! all we had was sharpened sticks. And the damned drill instructors made us go get our own, at that.

Had to sharpen them on a rock and hold them in a fire to harden the point. And you know what the DI said when he found excess carbon on the end of the stick!!

:D
You actually had fire? Back in the Old Corps no such luxury existed.
:D OK. You win. I can't top that one. :D:D:D
Ha!

We messed around with fire, but found that not being able to walk upright we were always getting scorched, so we left those lightening-struck trees alone.

And you had Drill Instructors? In my Corps drill had not yet been invented. We just had Instructors, who spend all day telling us what to do and how to do it and why we were doing it wrong and that we would never get it right.

stay safe.

Instructors telling you what to do? You had language? They just grunted and pointed at us.:)

Yes, well, that's why after doing some thinking I didn't want to serve the government anymore.

Well, if the government doesn't trust regular civilians, why would it trust those who have volunteered to be soldiers?

Crazy gubbermints, it wont work.

I found that interesting too.

I could be trusted to carry a M-16 with 120 rounds of ammunition and a M-9 with 30 rounds of ammunition as a cop augmentee but as soon as I finish my shift I can't. As if now that I'm not on duty I'm going to go berserk and shoot everyone or rob a bank.

Or get this, I was allowed to carry a rifle on a military installation with bombs, classified information, fighter jets, generals, and multi-million dollar equipment without anyone batting an eye but now if I have a pistol near a school I'm considered a danger to society.

Wow, you guys had fire? We had to chew the end of our sticks to make them pointy. After all that chewing it usually ended up being a soft mushy point. We often time resorted to just carrying rocks instead.

I feel your pain, LT. How are you doing out there in WA? It was good to meet you at the OC dinner a few months back at the County Grill. Hope you find like-minded folks out there on the Left Coast to associate with.

In response to an earlier post: Yes, Coasties are recognized as LEO's, BUT cannot carry off duty like regular cops. Off duty, they're just like civilians and other members of the military. Their LE duties are only carried out while on duty, in uniform UNLESS you're in CGIS (The Puddle Pirate version of NCIS). When I was running the range and working in an armory, I trained them, too. They wear coat & ties and act like FBI guys. I was called to back them up once or twice on arrests, but that wasn't very often.

I guess this is my perception of being a military bratt on the outside in and I do not undertsnd the comept of Soldiers giving up their right to defence because when theres a riod raged soldier the only thing taking them down or anyone else is a bulklet to the head, but soldiers are a dime a dozena and I dont need a father and your guys kids can live off what the VA gives them right? so ****** up

Please explain the point you're trying to make. I can't understand your post. I know you've had it rough as a child of a military veteran. My oldest daughter (a senior this year)has been to 7 different schools in her lifetime and I retired 4 years ago.

I'm a disabled veteran and its pretty had to live off "What the VA gives us". My wife has to work because I haven't been able to for several years. I have 3 cysts and a tumor in my spinal cord as a result of military service. VA disability compensation is hardly enough to feed and clothe4 kids in this day and age. Having a military retirement check help a little more, but I'm probably STILL eligible for welfare.

How's THAT for "Thanks from a Grateful Nation"?

Sorry for the rant, but some people seem to think disabled veterans sponge off the government. Sadly, there are some POSEURS out there that claim VA benefits and have never even served. Scumbags like that dishonor those who have given their lives (or health) in service to their country.

I think what he's saying is that soldiers are considered expendable, that their ability to defend themselves and their families off-duty is sacrificed for the base commander's career, even if it means their kids have to live off of VA benefits because dad got killed by a mugger at the BX gas station.

Pretty much sums up the theory behind all gun control, not just for the military.

Well, it sould help if you improved your writing skills a bit, I can barely understand what you wrote. I don't want to be a dick, but this isn't youtube, and more people would get your point and take you more seriously if you make an effort to use proper grammar.

Thank you for the translation, Tomahawk. That's what I needed. His English and grammar skills leave a LOT to be desired. I can usually figure out misspelled words and poor grammar, but that was a tough translation.

Socialists in office will only make it worse...

As much as I hesitate to join this party I might be able to offer some insite, valuable or not. When we stood line watch over our aircraft at home bases in Florida back in 1965 the person on duty was issued a .45w/ holster and guard belt. US Navy BTW. That is untill one night one of the lads got bored and decided to disassemble his weapon in the hangar. One of the springs got away from him and he turned in the weapon at the end of his watch as a hat full of loose parts. After that episode we got nite sticks. Never underestimate the abillity of a bored 19 year old to screw up anything.

Now THAT is a funny story. I remember some ironic ones, too... Back when they had Marines at the gates of NAS Norfolk, the Marines from the Marine Barracks (right next to gate 3A) carried loaded 45's at the gate... until one of them shot another during the "Changing of the Guard". My dad told me they took their ammo away from them after that. :cuss::banghead::what::uhoh::cry:
