[align=left]A Word About Funding
First, we'd like to offer a heartfelt thank you to all of you who have so generously donated to Second Amendment March. We are grateful to you, and cannot do this without you.
Now, we have received a (very) few comments regarding our funding. Specifically, people wonder why we ask for donations. The reasoning is simple: putting together an event of this size takes money, and lots of it. Consider the costs associated with:
~ Advertising - the goal is to get as many people to D.C. as possible. How can we get people there if they don't know about it?
~ Staging, lighting, sound, etc. - with such a large group, we cannot communicate by shouting. We will need staging, sound systems, possibly video displays and much more to be able to communicate to such a large group.
~ Porta-johns, security, cleanup crews - Yes, we need to pay for added security and cleanup crews as deemed necessary by the National Parks Service.
~ Tenting services and other inclement weather plans for the D.C. march
~ Printing services - for printing flyers, letterhead, itineraries, signs, banners...
~ Videography - for creating a Second Amendment March promo documentary and YouTube spots, as well as 30-second commercials for potential television advertising
~ Any applicable speakers' fees for the marches, as well as their airfare and hotel
~ Business costs involved with filing our paperwork for our nonprofit status, attorney fees (even though they are at a reduced rate, we still have fees)...
~ Ordering merchandise such as t-shirts, buttons and bumper stickers
~ Reimbursing our coordinators for gas, phone use, and other out-of-pocket expenses (note that most of our coordinators choose to eat some of the costs on their own, just as their own contribution to the cause.)
~ Fees for reserving space for state marches
~ and much more!
WHAT WE ARE NOT USING YOUR DONATIONS FOR...
~ We do NOT take a salary or any other form of compensation for putting together this event! In fact, Skip and the other officers have often incurred numerous personal expenses without seeking reimbursement from Second Amendment March funds.
~ We are not sending your donations to any other state or national organizations. One-hundred percent of the donations go to fund Second Amendment March activities.
One professional event organizer with experience in D.C. events has given us a goal of $500,000.
Through the generosity of pro-RKBA individuals and families, we have raised just over $10,000 since February. Pro-gun groups such as OFCC and Michigan Open Carry have held fundraising picnics and shared the donations with us.
We DO NOT receive funding from ANY pro-gun organizations, or from any companies!
As you can see from our expenses, corporate sponsorship will be important for us to obtain in the coming weeks. This is something that we are currently working on.
