We had it "made in the shade" yesterday.:D

If you were not at Saturday's Connecticut Citizens Defense League picnic, you missed a good time and good company.

This was, as advertised, an OPEN CARRY event in at a town park in Stratford. People came from all over the state to be there in order to meet, greet, talk about guns, and of course... OPEN CARRY in CT.

Check them out... and join up!

NOTE: This blogger stated that some open carriers have had there carry permits revoked in Connecticut - as far as I know, this has not happened since the Connecticut Board fo Firearm Examiners issued a legal opinion last year that permit holders have no duty to conceal their firearms.

1. Is there any statute prescribing that firearms must be carried concealed?

The answer is no. The law does not address this issue. But, with limited exceptions, it is illegal to carry a handgun, whether concealed or openly, without a permit, except in one's home or place of business (CGS § 29-35(a))."

Just to clarify a bit: the OLR is not a branch of the BPFE and does not issue legal opinions. OLR - Office of Legislative Research.

The OLR report linked to is an answer to 9 specific questions posed to them. The OLR was asked to base their answers solely on state statutes. A plain reading of the carry statute (Chapter 529, Section 29-35) clearly shows no prescribed method of carry.

Yes, open carry is legal in Connecticut, and we had a great day of enjoying our freedoms at a wonderful park. We seemed to be well received by everyone who happened by. At the very least well ignored. :p

If you haven't been to Boothe Memorial Park in Stratford, it's a great place to take the kids. The park has an old toll booth from the Merritt Parkway assembled next to the parking lot.
