Which "Gold Star" Open-carry State would you move to?

For me, of course, it's Virginia. The general ambiance reminds me of my native Indiana and my boyhood home of Ohio. The seasons are distinct yet mild for the most part. Here in Northern Virginia, it is for the most part very cosmopolitan and one meets a lot of interesting people; and the liberal-schmiberal political bent of the region is largely blunted by Richmond. We do have to put up with Congressman James "Bugs" Moran for the time being; but he may well be on his way out. I am convinced we will have a Republican governor in a couple months, and the City Council in Alexandria now contains two conservatives; and a young liberal knowitall was just voted out on his butt a few months ago.

AND there is a lot of money around here. 'course that translates to high rent, etc; but I am not homeless and not starving so I would say even the negatives are pretty good.

Great hunting and fishing are just a quick spin away, and there are plenty of places to enjoy nature even inside the Beltway. And the evtire region is just saturated in history.

If I had to move to another OC GS State it would probably be North Carolina, maybe around Raleigh or wherever I could find some great 'cue. Vermont is about three blankets too far north for me and also a bit too socialist. Arizona would be nice except all the damn rattlesnakes Reb chased off his place might wanna move into mine. Alaska - well, the Land of the Midnight Sun sounds great until you realize that half the year it is also the land of the Noonday Moon. Plus there are those extra blankets to worry about.

SO. Which OCGS State would be YOUR fantasy home and why?

You'll want to live in Alaska, move here, go through one winter, and move away. ;)

Of course if you can take it, you'll live here anywhere from 5-40 years. If you can withstand the higher cost of living here. Not only gas prices, but shipping items which are not available locally. Even if you live in Anchorage, there will be items which you want only available in the lower 48, resulting in $40USD(free if in the lower 48) for a simple 22" LCD. The price goes up, for example 130-150USD(free if in the lower 48) for the shipment of a Yamaha Tyros 3 Arranger keyboard.

You want to live here, then you better have the money and long term job.

How is Vermont socialist? Explain that to me please.

Also, look at what you'll want in the future. LGBT rights, pet ownership rights(fox, cougar ferret, etc as pets), peacenik hippies raining down on your open carry parade, the haunting ire from others resulting from the work of Palin, seeing the Russian Federation out of your bathroom window, huh... what else...

Check the price of plane tickets... 900~USD now just for a round trip in coach to Pennsylvania.

The fruit here sucks, we don't get any fresh items. When a store gets some nice imports, they're not great quality, especially mangoes.

On the plus side, it's very unlikely any law enforcement will EVER bother you here unless the person is a psychotic state trooper which doesn't know the law. I've stripped my unloaded gun sitting in the airport while waiting for my flight.

Being Southern born and Southern bred tends to keep me in the South. However, I admire and respect many parts of the country for their values and traditions.. I just don't care for cities and all of their attendant problems and restrictions.

Virginia is great and VERY gun-friendly, so that one is a no-brainer. I love South Carolina and hope one day to move there. But they are not as open to citizens carrying firearms as Virginia - yet.

I do NOT like cold climates, so the northern reaches, including Alaska, are not a consideration for me. That leaves the deeper South and parts of the mid-west and west. And those parts are inundated with too many people who do not call the United States their native land.

So Virginia's going to be it for the time being for me.

I would take Alaska in a heartbeat.

I could easily assimilate to Alaskan life, Plane tickets? I need to drive 250 miles to get to a commercialairport that handles jets the way it is now. What I may save on the purchase price is quickly eaten by long-term parking, the time, hassleand fuel to get to and from the airport.

Everything I would bring with me fits in my truck and my enclosed snowmobile trailer (I already have a longtrack sled for deep snow riding)

the weather here does not get as brutally cold as AK, but cold does not bother me as bad as it does some people.

I think I will stay in Utah, help repeal the loaded prohibition, and live in a gold star state without moving.

Just gotta get that loaded prohibition repealed.

I was born and raised in Western Ky, so I suppose you could say that is my home ground. I've been away for about 30 years now. I'm not familiar with the landscape of the other GS states so for now I guess I'd have to say back toKy would be where I'd move to. I still have family there.

As far as weather, I can handle cold better than the heat. No need for all those blankets on the bed. Throw a opened sleeping bag on as a top cover.

I live in what I consider the 3rd most gun friendly state in the Union: Arizona (with Vermont and Alaska being the #1 and #2 spots, respectively IMHO). It would take a lot to make me leave.

AZ is an open carry/no permit state; incredibly lenient & easy CCW process; and OC is almost universally accepted socially. Once we get our Constitutional Carry passed (it got lost in the budget problems this year) I think it will give AK & VT a run for their money.

That being said, If I were to move, I'd seriously look at Virginia or Wyoming (I've spent time in AK, and it is too cold for me; and I just think VT is a little too "socially libertarian" for me).

Having lived 'all over'... there's somethin' about the Sonora DesertI wouldn't trade for nuthin'.For many... it's a hot, hostile, alien landscape. To me... it's home. This pix is about a mile up the road. This is my 'hood'.

I was in Ohio, and moved to Virginia. If it weren't so cold, I'd choose Alaska.

'Constitutional Carry' - is that for permit-less concealed carry? If so, thenthat is a great way to title the concept. I hope it passes and then spreads to other states. Previously, I had been referring to the idea of permit-less concealed carry as 'Vermont/Alaska-style' carry but Constitutional Carry is a far better sound bite.

ConstitutionalCarry.organyone? Promoting national permit-less concealed carry sounds like it would be a great compliment to OpenCarry.org. I think that the efforts of OpenCarry.com in normalizing the concept of armed citizens will eventually makethings much easier to get all of our Second Amendment rights back in this country.

Eh, but I bet the houses in Alaska are built for it, no? Not so much here in WA.....all the houses are cardboard then people are miserable in anything but a 60-75 range.....

I can handle the cold.....the heat....well, you can only take off so many clothes before it's against the law.....:p

You all need to remember we do have SUMMER here.

In Homer, the temperature gets up to the 70s, so if your place is well insulated without air conditioning like mine, it will reach 100+F inside.

In Fairbanks, the summers are much more harsh since it is inland. Homer is a seaside city, probably the most expensive city tax wise to live. 7.5% sales tax, 3% goes to the borough. We don't have "counties".

Cost of living would be approximately the same. No the PFD doesn't really help at all since the gas prices are so high.

You do get a PFD for each child I shall mention, so if they don't go anywaywhere the money can be used on useful things.

We do have school bus runs in the city limits and some outside, but not too outside the limits which means parents would have to drive their kids to school if they live far outside.

Alaska has a high rate of car accidents, especially in the winter time, so city people need not apply for Alaska residency. ;) Girdwood is probably the most dangerous part to drive from Homer to Anchorage during any time of the year. If it's not ice, it's stupid drivers.

Oh, did I mention people from Canada come here to Alaska for vacation? They drive 35 as what the sign says on each road... 35... 35 kph... You want to just yell out "crétin!"

Yes. The law would have allowed for no-permit CC, to add to our no-permit OC. Having a CC permit would have allowed you "extra benefits": to carry in places formerly forbidden--restaraunt/bars, school grounds, etc.

Oh well, there's always next session....since last session the bill had 22 co-sponsers (out of 30 senators).

I'd have to try to get down to Mr.Mitches locale, but favor the west side of the state, Kentucky is my first choice, and ain't sure if N.D. is G.S., but thats gonna be my sons place of residence upon his return from this recent deployment in a year,, I'd be just as tempted to follow the hunting and fishing as I would anything. And Kentucky has it all!

If I had the finances I would move to Alaska...for me it is the ruggedness, and the beauty, not to mention the fact that no permit is needed to carry...

Arizona.

I grew up here, lived there for a while, and now I'm back to do some more school since the schools are better here and I can live and work with my brother. But I now consider Arizona home, and plan to move back as soon as it's prudent.
