Guns on Amtrak

Sounds like a prelude to giving the TSA massive money to start harassing Amtrak riders. And what if you use only carry-on luggage? Many station stops do not accept checked luggage because there is no luggage-handling capability at small stops.

And why is Amtrak complaining that they need to "track" firearms in checked luggage? Why can't you just stick it in the the baggage and be trusted? That's essentially how it is now, unless you are unfortunate enough to get one of the occassionaly dog-sniffings.

Maybe they won't get it done in time and will lose their federal funding. Not a bad thing. IMHO

One of the best things about a recent Amtrak trip I took was the fact that I simply showed up, presented a ticket and picture ID, sat down and waited in a waiting area, and walked aboard when it was time.
No searching, screening, etc. What a relaxed (and relaxing!) way to travel!

While that may be true, Amtrak is one of the reasons that you are Overtaxed,per your username.

All we would have to do is quit squandering tax dollars on it. They would have to triple the price of a ticket to stay alive. Then a lot of people would quit riding it, then they would have to raise the price of a ticket again. Eventually it would collapse under it's own weight.

Fair enough... But it's only one of a mile-thick patchwork of reasons why that's the case.

Even though I'm paying more for it than the face price of the ticket, I still deem it a comfortable way to travel, even if it's sometimes slower than driving.
