As firearms carriers we must maintain a heightened sense of situational awareness, and I worry that by elimination of one of our senses -- hearing -- we would be lessening the awareness we need to maintain. Not preaching to you, just concerned.

I totally understand that. I don't play my music very loud, and I play pretty mellow stuff on my walks (usually Of The Moon And The Wand, a great neofolk band.) Lately it's audio books so I can hear even better. My earbuds don't do much to block out sound, and I keep an eye out behind me while walking. When there is someone else on the street I usually only have one ear bud in.

Discount for OC/CHL

Walked in to Depot Street Burger & Malt Shop in city Rogue River the other day. I admit I haven't been to this place in several years. Walk inside and order a burger, my friend orders some ice cream. See a big sign on the wall that reads "Open Carry and CHL licenses get 10% off their order". Opened my jacked and discretely showed I was carrying and got 10% off of my order. The table under the sign contains lots of firearm books and magazines. Talked to the gentleman in charge at the time who's family owns the place, was a good conversation about open carry and how he feels the discount help bring in business. Would be great to see more small local businesses have this type of attitude.

I've opened carried at the home depot, target and petco at Jantzen beach without any problems.
I've not had any problems yet since moving up here from AZ, just took a while for me to get my CCL for OR and WA. I cross the river often enough that I needed both. I pick up my kids in Napavine every other weekend, no issues open carrying up there either. Specifically no issues at the Ribeye restaurant or McDonalds.

Open carried in Ashland last weekend. Had my IPhone running a "scanner" APP into my headset and heard dispatch put out a call for MWAG. Actually, they described the four of us....three carriers and a citizen I was talking to who had pulled over in order to talk to us about OC. It was nice to get the heads up that the local PD had been called.

As soon as I heard the call I looked up the road (one way) and a police car was sitting at the light on the other side of the intersection. As he pulled around I waved at him. He pulled past us (not too concerned) and approached in a friendly manner. No attempts made to obtain ID, intimidate, etc. A second unit came up and was just as friendly.

I asked if they'd heard anything about the petition going around to make Ashland a "loaded ban" city and they hadn't. Still planning to attend a City Council meeting to put them on notice as to their limitations under state law.

From Warren's videos, Ashland appears to have some of the most 2nd amendment respectful LEOs around. I've OC'd walking the trails at Lithia park but haven't had an LE interactions.

I've only had one interaction with LE in Ashland (pleasant and professional) and am down there quite often. It will be interesting to see how the Ashland PD responds on this ban ordinance garbage.

For those going to the Salem rally on Sunday, say hello. Tall, dirty blond to brown hair in a pony tail packing an FN Five Seven and probably slinging another weapon for the rally.

Ashland.

We-the people, I wish you luck trying to talk common sense to a bunch of people who have drunk the liberal Kool Aid for decades. It is most likely the council members don’t realize that If they vote to ban oc in Ashland, every person with an Oregon cc license will have an exemption from their ordinance. Unfortunately the only way to educate some people would be for every oc activist in the state to flock to Ashland hoping to be arrested or detained so they can sue the city and win. If you have a pony tail you should fit right in but don’t be surprised if they don’t allow you to speak especially if you are packing an FN five seven.

They'll let me speak I'm sure. The law is pretty clear, they must allow the public to address them at their meetings. I think going to the next meeting, rather than waiting for the one at which they will address the ordinance, is good because I can state the law of Oregon, their limitations, and the target (no pun intended) that they will make of their city if they're the only "ban city" in southern Oregon.

To avoid hijacking the Open Carry Report, any further discussion should be on the thread about their possible ordinance.

In Salem for the night, ready for tomorrow's rally. Came up today in order to go to Portland and hit Powell's Books. Had my smartphone scanner going and about 1/2 hour after going into the store heard Portland PD getting a call of MWAG in Powell's, called in by an employee who would meet them at the front and guide them to the subject. Said no problem present so not sure why they called unless it was to have me ejected.

So....put down the books that might have been purchased and headed out the store calmly.

Then heard a call of "an hysterical woman who found a gun on the street, no further information...." Location was the street we were on and the cross was where we had just been. WTF....I and the person I was with both (discretely) checked that all weapons were in indeed still on our person (yes but hey, that was a WTF MOMENT). Guessing the REALITY was a Portlandian went nuts when she saw someone walking on the street with a firearm. Oh WELL.

Then heard a call of a guy in a park who found a firearm and was standing by waiting for police....WTF AGAIN.....sheeeesh you do need to be armed in Portland, there are apparently guns everywhere.

Then heard a call of boys in the park with GASP BB guns (probably airsoft).

About 15-20 minutes after exiting we hear Portland PD called that "subject left the building, call closed".

Made it to the car and out of town with no further drama.......love my scanner app though I fully expected to use it to know when the cops were walking up so that I could activate recording devices.

Technology is great when it works.

oc a couple times

Hey all.
I have a chl but still like to oc.
My wife and I were in town (Molalla) and we were in a video store renting a few movies and a lady and her two kids, boy I would say about 12 yrs old and daughter about 15.
The little boy kept staring at me and I didn't pay to much attention to it until I heard him tell his mom , " that man has a gun mom" , and then asked his mom a few more questions and her reply was , ask him, meaning me so I looked at him and asked him if he wanted to know something and he asked me if I were a policeman, I told him no and that not just bad people being criminals or police carry fire arms but good people as well, then his mom asked him if he was scared and he said no.
Last Friday I went into bimart oc and no problems , had a few people look at me for awhile.
Went into sprotsmans warehouse and no one said anything but allot of looks from people.
Then yesterday, Saturday, I was in Springfield and stopped off at cabelas and all was good, had the door greeter smile at me and pointed at my gun on my hip and all he said was to make sure it stayed in the holster at all time and enjoy myself there.

your OR CHL exempts you from most oregon city's 'loaded carry' bans. CARRY ON!:monkey

you said it plainly and simply, and i think that's just about the best way to answer the 'are you a policeman?' question, no matter the age of the person who asks.

Then yesterday, Saturday, I was in Springfield and stopped off at cabelas and all was good, had the door greeter smile at me and pointed at my gun on my hip and all he said was to make sure it stayed in the holster at all time and enjoy myself there.

i'm glad it was a good experience and that things went smoothly, but please don't feel like you have to get their "ok" or worse, go around asking the door greeter's 'permission'. the last time i went to Cabella's the guy at the door told me the same thing as i walked in and i thought to my self "well, no &#!+":banghead:
it's cool that Cabela's welcomes you into the store like that, im just not used to it yet. .... what do they tell people when they CC?
i wonder if the door greeters think that everybody leaves their gun at home on rainy days:eek:

Your Oregon CHL exempts you from ALL Oregon city ordinances relating to loaded carry. Not "most".

With an Oregon CHL, only state level infringements upon your right to keep and bear arms are enforceable by the state.

NOTE: The right to keep and bear arms is NOT a Constitutional right. The right (and all others) PREDATE the Constitution.

MY OPEN CARRY REPORT FOR THE WEEKEND:

Saturday: See my earlier post regarding Portland PD being called.

Sunday:
Salem, Capitol building. OC'd my Wilkinson Arms Linda pistol, CC'd FN Five Seven and Ruger LCP in my new (non AOW) "wallet" holster at the 2A rally. Had a nice talk with Officer Davie of OSP about how they were approaching the event. Mostly using officer judgment, not attempting massive CHL and "loaded" checks, etc.
Also gave OFF my membership funds (and got a nice OFF patch).

After the Rally:
Arby's in Salem
Cabella's in Springfield - standard "is that staying holstered" question at the door, no problems.
Seven Feathers Casino - NOT OC. Spent about 4 hours at the blackjack table and left with more than I went in with after running the cards in the last 15-20 minutes and having a HELL of a memory.
Grant's Pass - Denny's restaurant

Other than the PD being called while in the Portland Powell's Books (and not finding us), no issues whatsoever with OC.

Toss in being around hundreds of Patriots, the memory at Seven Feathers, foiling the libtard's in Portland that called the PD on us, and a weekend away with the GF....... GREAT WEEKEND.

Correct me if I'm wrong but I thought all casinos in OR were on tribal property and therefore no carry allowed per their own "special" rules.

Ahhhh I didn't say that I CC'd, only that I didn't OC.

However, my understanding is that tribal laws ONLY apply to tribal members. Still, using private property laws, they could ask you to leave and/or trespass you if you were to carry (and they found out). In talking with one of their security supervisors on a prior visit I was informed that all they do is ask you to take your weapon to your vehicle and you're free to come back inside. Of course that was THAT supervisor on THAT day. Who you get, should someone decide to CC and not be very good at it, may vary.

Which scanner app do you prefer? I've tried a few different ones.

I use two as one covers channels the other doesn't and vice versa. The main one I go to is "911 police scanner". The second choice is "5-0 Radio".

BOTH are free in the Apple APP store and work pretty well on wifi or cellular data. There is a bit of a delay when listening to my Bearcat and the APP but that is to be expected since it has to be fed to the internet. It's not so long a delay that you won't get a heads up, maybe 30 seconds to a minute. In Ashland the other day, I heard the call and the police were at the intersection but I think they were right there anyway due to the small size of the town.

In Bend there is a no loaded ordinance in city parks with no CHL exclusions.
