There’s a “No Guns Allowed” sign, on a small restaurant in Moorcroft, Wyoming !
This restaurant has been very gun friendly in the past; in fact, the whole town is gun friendly from my personal experience. As far as I can tell, the wearing of a personal defense weapon is viewed as ordinary by most residents there.
Why then, is there a “No Guns Allowed” sign on the business ? A little research and a few questions brought out this story. A couple, identity unknown, open carried their holstered pistols into the restaurant, then during their stay, proceeded to pull the guns out of the holsters and “play” with them. The “play” was considered to be unsafe by others in the place, so the management felt that they must take some action to deter this sort of thing in the future. The management of the restaurant is still gun friendly, but felt they needed to do something. (maybe their response should have been to toss the couple out on their ears ?)
My main thought with this posting is meant to be a caution to anyone carrying a personal defense weapon, a special caution to those who are new to packing a weapon, whether carried openly or concealed. Keep the pistol in its holster, keep the big defensive knife in your pocket and keep the rifle slung. Keep your hands away from your weapons, don’t pat them, rest your hands on them or snap the blade in and out idly. Keep the weapon in its safe place UNLESS you have determined that you need to use your weapon to defend your life or the life of another person. Practice your defensive actions on the range or another safe place.
Another way to consider this is to put yourself in the position of those people around you while you are casually displaying your weapon, if the muzzle of your gun is pointing at them, they might feel compelled to defend themselves, even though your actions are simply thoughtless and ignorant.
