Is the GMU chapter of SCCC still "inactive"? We've finally gotten the JMU group up and running (I just opened up our bank account today). I may be going to Mason next fall, so I'm curious as to their groups' status.

Pretty much. The leadership has for the most part graduated. The facebook group is still there with a decent membership.

The Attorney General has filed his Brief in Opposition to the Petition for Appeal (Oct. 9, 2009). It's a scanned image so it's a little large.

Page 7 is a load of BS. Yup, a university regulation is going to stop a nut job from walking into a university building with the intent to do harm to others.

Yup that'll work just like it did at Virginia Tech...oh, right...

Nova, it will not only not prevent it, you can make a good case it would invite it. I tend to believe that Cho would not have done what he did if he thought there was the possibility of armed confrontation. This is evidenced by the fact he shot himself as soon as he knew the police were in the building.

Yeah I believe the same. Here's a news clip that actually speaks the truth, and also shows that not all cops are against us:

The first university massacre in Virginia didn't turn out too good either. But the Response was to arm, not disarm the people.

Massacre of 1622 and the University of Henrico
"
The University of Henrico was granted a royal Charter in 1618 and was headed by George Thorpe. It was located near the "Citie of Henricus". The city and the university were destroyed in the massacre. "As it was, the town of Henrico was totally annihilated, and George Thorpe, the superintendent of college lands, was killed, and seventeen of the college tenants perished with him. Thus came to an end the proposed college.

The Colonial Dames of America (Chapter I.), deploring the neglect of these facts in Virginia's history, have offered to the Johns Hopkins University a medallion, to be conferred annually upon some graduate or student of the university for the best essay on American history. The medallion contains this inscription: "The University of Henrico, destroyed in the massacre March 22, 1622." In the centre of the medallion is George Thorpe, and behind him stand his tenants, while in front are the Indians rushing upon them." Source: Julian A. Chandler and Travis B. Thames, Colonial Virginia, 106-107, 176-183 (1907)."

As noted, this Mims brief is exceedingly sophomoric. And as noted, it has been clearly demonstrated that no-gun zones are the exclusive domain of mass murderers.

Mims clearly needs a new job.

I can't help but wonder what McDonnell or Cuccinelli would have written instead. Are newly elected AGs allowed to rescind and supercede old AG's briefs?

Who actually came up with those parade of horribles?

Those examples supporting the alleged 'compelling government interest' are insane.

Thanks Planter, I didn't catch your meaning in posting the list. I even looked it up and still didn't catch it :^). But you are right, in the old days the response would have been to arm. To disarm is absolute idiocy.

Well, its obvious that the proper solution is to pass a law requiring all criminals to wear loin-cloths, feathers, and war paint. Maybe a few people will finally make the connection that "the Indians" are still around, just that its criminals now instead of Native Americans.

Take 10% off the sentence of any criminal dressed as a war-pathing Indian.

Automatic 2 year sentenceor sentence enhancement for any criminal not so dressed.

We would just have to find a new avatar for Tomahawk.

Well golly, if the policy is so necessary for academic safety, why exempt the cops?

"... by any person, except a police officer, is prohibited ..."

Note: no distinction between on-duty and off-duty.

Perhaps Billy Mims should explain the double standard, within the meaning of the Equal Protection Clause.

+1

Just need to find a way to broaden the argument to cover students, police--on and off duty--and citizens. It would otherwise be too easy to change the policy to cover only only duty police. Or just delete the police officer language entirely and let the federal law that allows police to carry off-duty address the matter.

Their 'compelling' reasons are a load of tripe! :cuss:

I'm sorry but my 8 year old can write / articulate better reasons to ban guns than those. I ought to have her read them and report back what she says.

And these guys are public servants?!? We pay these guys to do this for us?!? Methinks we need to clean house and get better qualified people.

For the record, I wouldn't have an issue with an anti response if it was well articulated and relied on cogent arguements and examples. The letter Mr. Mims signed off wasn't anything close to professional quality as I have been taught.

Codrea is always on target. Why McDonnel picked a gun grabber (Mims) to succeed him as attorney general is beyond me, unless McDonnel isn't really the strong 2A person he claims to be.

The university response is a load of garbage. How can it be that I can enter a k-12 school administration building, but not a university administration building?

If Mason wants to claim to be a K-12 to fall under a GFZ, then maybe, just maybe as a public university, I should go to school for free rather than paying all that money to have my rights restricted.

Now thats just a silly thought...
