VASSAR — Residents are invited to attend a special meeting of the Western Thumb Tea Party Group Oct. 1, at the Orchard Auction and Stable, 5966 W. Sanilac Rd.

Guest speaker is National Rifle Association Field Director Al Herman.

“This is an opportunity for people to educate themselves on the Second Amendment, the right to bear arms,” said Donald Clinesmith, a member of the WTTP.

Herman will talk about the history of the NRA and the NRA Foundation. A question- and-answer period will be held immediately following his presentation.

According to Herman, the NRA’s mission is to preserve and defend the Second Amendment. An NARA Field Representative since 2007, Herman has volunteered for the NRA for more than 25 years. He travels the entire state for the NRA, logging more than 40,000 miles in a year. He is also an NRA Benefactor Member, Master Training Counselor, Eddie Eagle Instructor, Range Technical Team Advisor, and Refuse to be a Victim Instructor.

Field Director Herman is the Michigan DNR Hunter Safety Coordinator for Bay County and competes in many shooting sports activities through out the year, as well as shooting in the Nationals at Camp Perry.

According to Clinesmith, the WTTP group is a non-partisan citizen action network whose goal is to ensure that the United States remains the safest, freest, and most prosperous country in the world.

Members are committed to educating family, friends and neighbors about economic policy and a return of the federal government to its Constitutional limitations.

Orchard Auction and Stable is located at the corner of M-46 and Vassar Road. The event begins at 6:30 p.m. Refreshments will be available for purchase and everyone is welcome.
