Safety Day in Midland

Safety Day set for Saturday

Midland Police have invited the community to attend the Home Depot Safety Day.

The event is set for 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Saturday at the store, located at 1100 Joe Mann Blvd.

Law enforcement officials from the Michigan State Police, Midland County Sheriff Office and the Midland Police will be at the store to pass out safety items.

Anyone care to attend and OC with me? I know the Midland PD are aware that OC is legal, as the Chief has stated "yes it is legal, but we don't recommend it".

I don't know of very many people (maybe 2 others) who have OC'd in Midland. Would be a good opportunity to see what kind of saftey they are promoting and possibly share some OC awareness knowledge.

I was thinking of going around Noon.

I contacted the home depot customer care. They informed me that they do not prohibit conduct in regards to firearms as long as it is in compliance with state and federal law. They also informed me that if I wanted to get a code of conduct document, I would have to speak to the store manager to get one.

According to what I was told by customer care I think we are free and clear to participate in this event at Home Depot.

Any idea what the "safety items" are that will be given out? If they're giving out stickers that say 911 I wouldn't bother but if I can get a little fire extinguisher or something I'd show up.

Upon further investigation, I have determined this is a safety day for Children. They didn't disclose this in the public city website. I had to find this information elsewhere.

I have decided that I will not be going, since the safety material is targeted to Children. (I don't have any kids)

ether, might not be a good idea to call stores ahead of time to ask permission or see if it's ok to show up. I know, I know you didn't really ask permission, but it might be better to just show up and then take care of any problems after the fact. It would be too easy for a retailer to just say that is prohibited.springerdave.

Thank you Dave, I'm aware of that. I didn't ask them if it was against their rules. I asked for their customer code of conduct and where I could acquire it.

The conversation was actually rather funny, I didn't mention ANYTHING about guns in the store. I just asked questions like "Where can I find your customer code of conduct" and "Is it store policy to follow state and federal laws for customer conduct". The lady I was talking to figured out on her own that I was referring to guns, and stated that it was not prohibited in their stores.

I stopped at the safety day thingy with my boys yesterday. They just had Auburn Williams firefighters out letting kids and big kids climb around in the truck. The two firefighters were the only ones outside. The ambulance crew let the kids climb around inside the ambulance as well, but they didn't interact too much with the kids. The police and the state trooper were inside with a third firefighter.

The firefighters outside showed the kids how to use an extinguisher (and offered to let me play with it too). They were good. I wasn't OCing since I didn't want my gun to get cold. Come to think of it, that might be why the police were inside where it was warm.
