While I've been gearing up for a move to AZ from the PRFL, I decided to broaden my search a bit, look at NV.

I like that AZ pretty much hasn't got any hassles for OCers, but would I just be taking the easy road? I ask myself, since there is an active battle in NV to put criminal government in it's place, would I be more useful there?

Sure, I can use the money, but the truth of the matter is that I hate nothing more than JBTs making Veterans roll in their graves. I cannot really make a contribution to that in AZ, the battle seems mostly won there already.

I'm not too old, and I still got some fight in me. Maybe NV is where I should be?

Nevada outside of Las Vegas is one of the few places more friendly to open carry than Arizona, from what I hear. I live in Reno, and open carry frequently. I've had a couple of curious people ask questions, but that's all. Several times I've walked past police and security. They usually notice (unlike most other people), but they've never looked worried about it. (Although that might have something to do with me being a fat middle-aged woman who couldn't look much less threatening.) ;)

I spotted a couple parcels of land next to a small aristrip just about smack-dab center of the state. Really cheap, too. I need to check with building code and zoning for the kind of house I want to build, but it looks like a winner.

Heh, about 250 people already live there, so I'm guessing it isn't. :p

I echo SakeNeko's comments about rural Nevada seems to be much more tolerant than southern Nevada, namely Clark County. But there have been some incidents in Reno too. I think the you would be very USEFUL if you winded up close to either Reno or Las Vegas.

Here in Las Vegas, there are a number of issues:

Local government observance of preemption (NRS 244.364, NRS 268.418, NRS 269.222) - Parks are posted (Clark County Code (CCC) 19.04.060), etc.

Clark County firearm registration (CCC 12.04.110, CCC 12.04.200) - Where do I start? First of all, it's allowed under preemption, but it's a registration, and we'd obviously like to see it go. But second, local law enforcement seems to OVER-enforce this ordinance. Registration is required only of residents of Clark County but LE wants to enforce it on visitors too. A registration "blue card" is issued but is not required to be carried with the gun, yet LE almost always demands it be presented, and threatens the citizen if it's not.

State law allows public buildings (government) to restrict concealed weapons inside buildings (NRS 202.3673). This prohibition does not apply to non-concealed weapons, i.e. OC. But that doesn't stop certain public buildings from trying to ban all weapons in violation of preemption. For example, the Clark County Library (1401 E Flamingo, Las Vegas, NV 89119) posts all public entrances that (paraphrasing) "All weapons...(concealed or open)...(with or without a permit)...are prohibited and violators will be prosecuted." We need to force this issue.

LE still stops OC'ers regularly. The Las Vegas Metro PD, which patrols the City of Las Vegas, and the entire unincorporated Clark County, is undergoing mandatory training the OC alone is not enough to stop a person. And although they are the largest police department in Southern NV by far, that still leaves 5 other departments that have not been trained specifically on OC - BCPD, CCPP, HPD, NHP, NLVPD - leaving open the possibility of an encounter with one of their officers, not to mention a LVMPD officer whose training hasn't quite sunk in.

LE unofficial procedure when a gun is encountered, even in lawful stops, needs work. There is nothing official that I can find. During a stop, LE confiscates a weapon, runs the serial number to check it's status, if it checks out OK, removes the magazine and chambered round, unloads every round from the magazine, and returns the ammo, magazine, and firearm separately. If a LE temporarily seizes a weapon for officer safety reasons, that does not give them authority to check the serial number, but they do so anyway. They unload (search) the magazine. In one recent encounter, I was interrogated about the type of ammunition I carry. I did not authorize the search and the police did not have a warrant or other lawful authority to conduct the search. Removing ammunition from a magazine goes way beyond the scope of officer safety. LVMPD has shown it's professionalism by offering a mandatory training to officers on the topic of Open Carry. We need to help them get to the next level and establish proper procedures for handling the firearms of citizens while maintaining officer safety.

There are other issues, but this is just off the top of my head as to what I think are the important ones. There's a lot of work, and while we did get together as a group for a litter pickup, we have not managed to come together again since. Aside from the issues above that need to be fought, one major thing we could benefit from is some help organizing. I'd like to see us all get together regularly, but like anything else there are details which seem to dog me every time I think about trying to setup a get-together. When? Where (parks, for the time being, are off limits)? How (alert LE of our intended peaceful get together or not)? etc.

The Nevada Shooters is a well-organized local group with a lot of members, but some of their members are anti-OC (they do offer sound, persuasive logic to support their position), and there's been some tension between groups, which it would be useful to try to work through.

Finally, I started to create the NV Citizen Defense League (NVCDL) and have a business license and web site, but never had the time to get it officially off the ground and apply for 501.3(c) status. If you have any experience with this (VA and AZ both have effective CDLs already), it would be very cool to get this off the ground and have a non-profit setup. Among other things, it would be the best way for us to setup legal defense funds for any wrongly accused and/or members victimized by abuse police.

So yes, your help would be very welcomed here in Nevada!

I have a serious bone to pick with so-called 'authority' that doesn't obey the law. Some people miss-construe it as any number of propagandist terms you may have heard... But the root of the matter is that I hate living in a country that so many fought and died to create, only to have those who swear to uphold it, destroy it.

Some would say that I just want to stir up shit to try to make money off of it. That isn't true. Sure, who DOESN'T need money these days? But the point is to put the pinch on the traitors and teach them a hard lesson. These people live comfy, easy, lives of luxury as they abuse the tax dollars that are extorted from those they are supposed to be protecting (that old line...). If not stripped of their cash, how else would it ever sink in? they're living the high-life off of the same people they assault and oppress.

In America!? MY America? Un-*******-acceptable!

I won't live in Clark County and be forced to Register myself as a Jew on the list... But I can drive.

After re-reading your post, I had an idea...

If the PDs won't create and circulate their own memos (there has been a bit about this in Mich I believe), make your own, email it and fax it to the CLEOs in question.

"I'm sorry, Officer, I guess you didn't get the memo? Here's a copy."

Start a "Did you get the memo?" campaign on each of these topics of concern. Don't worry about follow through on the other end. Arrogance will show itself, as always. but when they receive all of these sound legal memos, and realize you're making a list of points to hit them with, and have sound legal research and grounds for each and every one of them... I think it'll add up. Regardless of the effect, it won't be possible to ignore it, and people will talk.

Don't put multiple points on each memo. Every individual issue gets a separate memo and research/citations, etc included in it. Hell, make 'em PDFs! All you gotta do is type much of what I've seen you post here on the forums already.

Writing a letter doesn't affect the arrogant. But a growing checklist of deliberate disobedience of clearly written law, does.

It'd be great if we could meet at least once a month. There have been a lot of topics in this thread alone that we could organize around. Unfortunately, I don't have a real-world work schedule. But, at the risk of sounding narcissistic :?, I'm available Monday & Thursday nights and early afternoon Saturdays.

I live in Lemon Valley, just north of Reno but with a Reno mailing address, so I'm in Reno. I open carry EVERYWHERE I go with the exception of to the kids' school, Church and the rare occasions I go into a casino or bar (which is very rare). When I am home I carry concealed but the only reason I conceal is because we have a lot of people here at all times including horse borders and I don't want to scare anyone away, including the masses of my kids' friends.

I've never, ever had a problem. I've had many inquiries, a couple of which could have been construed as antagonistic but I walked away from those. I've had many encounters with the LEO's and none of them were negative. In fact, there are two LEO's that I know quite well because we've happened to be out on BLM land at the same time shooting.

The only time my holster comes off of our out of my pants is when I cross the state line into California but even then the piece is in a lockbox in my luggage, fully disclosed to the airlines and taken with me.

And, I will continue to OC until such time as I can financially afford to cut through the red tape required to get my CCW.

I love it!

Heh, the neighborhood kids all come over to my place specifically because they get to shoot stuff... If there weren't a bunch of guns around they might wonder if they were in the wrong place. ;-)

LOL, that's classic! A couple of the kids' have gone out with us before, but not too many! My kids' have a very healthy respect for the firearms in the house, but, I've found through casual conversation, most of the kids' that come over here have no respect for guns and being around 10 +/- a couple years, still have the Cop's 'n Robbers mentality. I can't risk taking OPK (other people's kids') out to a range when I'm concerned they'd mishandle a firearm from the get go!

I've converted several of those. I try to do it in the company of 1 kid their age whom can be trusted, and myself. They don't get to touch until they see the both of us demonstrate proper handling and shooting. Then, we both watch like a hawk, within less than arms length, as they make their first go.

I've not found a single one who does not respect both the firearm and those presenting the learning experience in this system. Most of them, in spite of their normal demeanor, transform into very civilized and decent young people. It's surprising what a little respect, responsibility, and discipline will do. I get the feeling that they've never had any of it before.

I've never asked one of them to call me 'sir,' yet they all do. Even the 'thugs and troublemakers.' Their parents are in complete awe over how their children behave around me. They ask me how I do it... I just tell them to buy a gun and let their kids teach them...

None of them have. :banghead:

Why are kids so much smarter than adults?
